I was considering getting one of these two and was wondering which would people recommend? What are the pros and cons of each?

    Alright, get the cheaper one.

    Same price?

    Get the M3 simply.

Cuz that's what I have, works fine.

Make sure when you get the microsd, if it's kingston, make sure it's made in Japan.

r4ds and the m3 ds simply are exactly the same , the only difference is that the firmware updates for the r4ds is normally quicker ( 1 or 2 days ) than the m3 ds simply

and do make sure you get the japanese kingston micro sd memory its the most compatible for ds roms .

I have a SanDisk 2GB that runs Castlvania PoR (the game with the most problems.. the only game with problems) fine on my m3 ds simply, but if i put it into an R4, it doesnt work..

Thats about the only thing m3dss is better at than r4. it runs that micro sd.

At one time I saw someone doing a hardware modification that allowed them to switch between R4 and M3 firmware.

But I believe they changed the physical something of the board to make it harder now.
