Philips dvp642 has a major problem with certain Media.
I have bought two of these players over the last week.
The first player kept 'Loading...' after I hit 'Open' to eject it. So then I bought another player today and the same thing happened.

    It's the Media Type !
Sony DVD-R (white printable surface) are heavier and thicker than most DVD-R's and get stuck in the tray when you try to eject it. When it locks up you can not open the tray and there is no way to get the DVD out. Rendering the player unusable.

How I tested to make sure was to remove the case.
Where I found the Sony DVD-R pushed to the back of the tray.

I removed it and played a normal commercial DVD and it played and ejected fine.

I then tested with a 'Non-Printable' DVD-R and it worked fine too.

To replicate the problem I kept putting in different Sony DVD-R's and every single time they would get stuck and jam it. The only way to get them out is to take the case off.

I will keep the player because it's great but everyone should be warned about the Media type they use. I think Philips will know about this real soon.

    Niko-
