Hang on - What about English! You know the language that comes from England - Great Britain - which we were once. The world speaks and writes English, apart from the US:

Colour is the correct English spelling as is used by Australia UK and the non US influenced Canadians.

COMPLEAT OR COMPLETE? Canadian spelling is complete - the English spelling! Use of compleat tends to be reserved for affectation.

CO-ORDINATE OR COORDINATE? Canadians like hyphens (as do the UK) after co. Co-ordinate how you co-operate. The government style often differs, however.

GRAY OR GREY? Canadian spelling is grey, so is the English spelling.

SCEPTICAL OR SKEPTICAL? Canadian spelling is with a C, although this is fading with time. Many newspapers use K.

SULFUR OR SULPHUR? Canadians prefer sulphur, but the scientific standard is sulfur.

The Bill Gates phenomenon is polluting our spelling Theatre, Centre etc US English v International English - how patronising!

So my view is that Ameeyun want to write to his Canadian girlfriend in English - or French the other official Language. There is no such thing as Canadian English, or Australian English though it is fair to say Bill Gates and Hollywood have affected the way some people spell.

Got that off my chest - let the arguments begin.

i agree... americanese is taking over the world...

i also come from UK (lincolnshire) but have to think in americanese a lot as i work as a database/software developer and use color etc all the time...

but to really get me started just talk to me about football, you know the game that we invented 50+ years before the yanks invented their 'football' - incidentally why did they call it football as the ball is hardly ever kicked!?!?!?

i digress, just stirring shit up for ya :D
