    use a program called AutoGK,

rip movie in IFO mode with dvd decrypter, open up that directory in autogk, set the filesize and audio info( i use mp3 variable 192kbps), and pick save directory and hit start.

I have a p4 3.06ghz and it take about 2.5 to 3 hours so idk bout u but thats me

I haven't checked out the Xvid guides here at AD, but here is a good one at Doom9: http://www.doom9.org/ (You'll have to navigate yourself). Hope it helps!

br0k3n: Don't use that dvdripguides site. Look at the news on that site, it hasn't been updated in over a year. The Tutes on that site quote encoding speeds on a PII-350. Needless to say, if you still have PII-350, don't even bother ripping DvD's ;). Doom9.org tutes are all updated to the latest codecs and Auto Gknot is perfect for your needs.
