making a dvd problem copying files

    I have a movie in my files that is a mpeg layer 3-file and am trying to burn it to a dvd, I have tried windows movie maker etc and I get the message the video x.avi could not be opened studio does not support the mpeg4 video file format. How can I convert this file so i can copy it to a dvd, Alsoi its over 4.5 gigs so I have to edit it to 2 disks, I have several video editing software. Appreciate any help

    or

    Try Mainconcept Mpeg Encoder
