    BB,
I just have them sitting flat in a bookcase without direct exposure to sunlight of any kind. Some of those were burned on substandard media (trying to save a buck). Just recently however, I labeled SkyCaptain after burning a DL using RiData media. Speed could have been a factor as the media was rated at 2.4x and I burned it at 4x. Played good for a bit, then reported "damaged or dirty" by my newest standalone DVD player/recorder upon insertion. This happened inside of 3 weeks.

Not sure what the fix is. It does seem to happen more with DL's than singled..

so how do i make an exact copy of a DVD9?
so DVD Decrypter is no longer useful & should use AnyDVD (recommended)
    DVDFab Decrypter and DVD43 (freeware)

I've not been doing DL so no idea there. Bad media can cause a lot of problems. As long as the labels were applied properly and stored in a normal room temp environment out of the sunlight, they should last for years. At least mine have and they're still showing no signs of deterioration. I don't handle them rough or too often, which probably makes some difference. DVDs should be handled by the edges like a record, but I see a lot of people handling them by the flats. Hopefully you're keeping the playable surface clean and polished and scratch free.

Google, google, google. That's the way we found them. I'll be kind though. Decrypter is avialable here at AD in Software or was. Check for links to the other apps ther. Some are linked by the name, such as AnyDVD , DVD Shrink , and DVD Decrypter , and DVD43 .

It is. Just have it on and make sure the fox icon is on the taskbar. Usually by the clock at bottom right.

You should have read the product info page at http://www.slysoft.com/ for the AnyDVd. Right click the toolbar icon and select settings. Then review them to see what there. I select having the DVD open to the menu and skip adverts. I prefer to start manually instead of letting it autostart. I also like to have the Info window open so I can see what encryption is on the disc. Those aren't default settings. But it will work well at default. If you want to change anything, when you open you just look under the different tabs and selected options should be checked.

And no, DVD Decrypter is still useful. In fact it's only flaw is being out of date on the decryption software. It only fails on the newer encryption systems. Not all of the new releases are using them. Columbia and Sony releases are the most suspect. Disney Movies are bad for new encryption. Use with AnyDVD, DVDD is still good for ripping source files to the hard drive. The writing software is still useful as well. The author released ImgBurn, which is the writing software of DVDD and some utilities. That has support.

i see...wat if i already made an image from DVD to HD thru DVD Decrypter...do you think i mount the image thru Daemon Tools & use AnyDVD or DVDFab Decrypter from there?

You don't seem to understand the software. AnyDVD and DVD Decrypter serve the same purpose for decryption, just they are different types and DVDD is outdated. If you have the source on the HD, you're ready to encode if you're using 4.7 discs and the file size is over 4.37GB. If you're burning DL, you're ready to burn.

Daemon is a drive emulator that comes in handy for loading movie files in ISO to play on the PC. A backup for DVD5 consists of decrypt, encode, and burn. For DVD9 (DL) all that is needed is decrypt and burn.

I'll chime in, hopefully brobear won't mind :)
    ae86akina,
Yes you can do that, but again you really don't have to. From my experience, once you decrypt in ISO mode with DVDDecrypter, I didn't find yet a movie that would fail, regardless of who made it. You can write from that ISO straight to disk with ImgBurn for example. If the size allows you, if not you can reauthor the movie using any shrinking software of your choice.

    Cman,
If you still reading it, brobear is 100% right about labeling DVDs. I just would like to add, it's most likely a media problem in your case. I know the price is good on those disk almost 1/2 as of the Verbs, even I was debating buying some printables, but once fooled never again will buy from them.

I don't mind, but I thought I covered that, if not in the same words. I said he's ready for encode or burn depending and that he need not mess more with Daemon or the decryption software. He can use the freeware Shrink if encoding that will handle the ISO without using Daemon. If using one of the apps for encoding that doesn't support ISO, then he can use DAEMON as an option. Usually one should rip according to the encoder and burner that is going to be used and the formats they support. For instance if using Shrink, it doesn't matter what format the files are ripped in File or ISO. The reason being Shrink can create an ISO image from files to use as the source for a burner that supports the ISO format. DVD Decrypter and ImgBurn come to mind. If using a burner that burns files, rip and encode in files for the burner. All the user has to do is have in mind a picture of the whole process and use the appropriate format according to the software being used. I realize you know these things, I was just making our novices aware.

On mention of ISO, that is a package, no more than a folder for files. Think of it as a bag for marbles. If you open a DVD Movie backup in Windows Exploer instead of playing it, you will see AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS. The movie and audio files are in VIDEO_TS. I've not seen anything in AUDIO_TS, guess someone at some time had a use for the folder though. To get back to the point, that is what you see on a factory disc, only the Audio_TS file may be missing as it isn't needed. I'm looking at one now with just the Video_TS folder. It doesn't matter if you open the VIDEO_TS folder of a factory disc, a backup recorded in ISO, or a backup in the File mode; you get the VIDEO_TS folder with the VOB, BUP, and IFO files inside. I've yet to have a problem with backups recorded in File mode or ISO write; it's the same material, just delivered in a different package or in the case of File mode, less of a package.

For those hard to show, open a DVD movie from an ISO folder with the WinRAR archive tool, or any that support ISO. Once opened, there is the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS as previously described.

well i create the DVD9 ISO but when i use DVD Decrypter, Nero, Alcohol 120% to burn the ISO. During DVD playback it just froze when the DVD Player begins to read on the second layer. I use Ritek RiData http://www.meritline.com/ritek-ridata-4x-dual-layer-dl-dvd-r-disc-silver-shiny.html which i bought from this site. So far i don't know wat is causing the problem. When i put the DVD in my DVD-ROM Drive it reads perfectly (since DVD-ROM Drive usually reads better than any standalone DVD Player) that's just my theory. So i need to test the DVD on a different standalone DVD Player @ my friend's house or so.

Good idea about checking different players. DL recording has been tricky from the beginning and besides recording problems, there have been problems with drives not being compatible.

thanx for all ur help...& i'll report back if the playback is successful without freezing

okay my "standalone DVD player theory" was wrong...it still freeze @ that point (trying 2 read 2nd layer of DVD9 disc)...& i thought it could read on the DVD-ROM "PERFECTLY" so I pop the DVD9 disc back in & just let it run (without forwarding to the point) & the problem still remains can't do anything @ that point, but if i pass the freezing point then it plays perfectly...so i guess there's a DVD Layer Break problem so how do i perform this method?!?!
    thanx

iamhead, I wrote this page on another thread, it's for newbies like you and myself, hope this helpes out a little bit.
herrick I to have dvdxopy from 321, still use it, have it almost 4 yrs now when it was a legit product, they were the best by far, was so sorry to see them go, things like Nero etc way to complicated for many people like myself big reason why I still use it, the problem with dvdxcopy is its becoming obsolete I'm afraid because of movies from sony and others that are applying more garbage that dvdx cant handle, last year I also purchased DVDXPlat. from Xsoftware not 321 dont confuse it with that, it does work exactly like dvdxcopy plat. from 321, almost identical, with that purchase xsoftware also gives you videovault, its a little more complicated peace of software but also has a one click easy burning method also, and of course dvdxplat doesnt have a dycryptor like 321 has, I use DVD43.
So far I have been able to copy all movies with all 3 softwares, if 321 doesnt work I try dvdxplat. if I have trouble with that my last resort is videovault, sometimes it can do things the other 2 can't, only two movies I have not been able to burn, both are sony I believe, Madigaskar and The Cave.
Today I did have trouble with The Fog, with 321 you can usually tell there is gonna be a problem by some of the things it says, and of course with 321 dvdxcopy you can't compress, don't care I don't like compression anyway, always use 2 disc's unless just can't like today, 321 failed, I than tried videovault with it's easy mode, it wipes out all the extra features and compreses to one disc, it does compress nicely even tough I don't like it, I didn't try dvdxplat first because I saw it said part two had to much information, like 4.90, so I tried videvault, that didn't wotk either, than I went back to dvdxplat, it also has a compresion feature, it also lets you edit or apply certon apps but to complicated for me I just click on compress the whole damn thing, well it worked, I got The Fog no problem with DVD43 in the background, don't like compresion but I call it a victory anyway, viewed it and am satisfied.
But from what I have been reading on these forums is I think I will be needing dvdclone and AnyDVD, my kind of software since you don't need to be a geek to figure things out.
Once I get those two I will keep people posted on how all of them work especially for newbies like myself, hope this helped some.
