why do some people say that tdk only work in the sw-9581 and some say ritek deep dye or datewrite work?surly all sw-9581's are the same spec? people with sw-9581's need to know for definate which dvd-r work, because we had enough of wasting good money on rubbish disks that do not work.so if there is anyone out their that we can rely on to give us the correct name of disks that work ,it would be appreciated. also about supanet- i had the same problem when i bought my time machine, why do time think that everyone wants to sign up to supanet, they shouldn't put supanet on their computers,as many people already have an isp before they buy their compo, because they are probably upgrading from an older compo. also- ive phoned time support and found them not helpful ,they don't know much on the £1 aminute lines, same with time shops - not geared up!

The Datawrite Classic Yellows 4x ,seem to be the favourite pick , look back on the postings.I even bought a sample pack of different discs to try, eveyone was aok except bulkpaq orange , that had a momentary freeze in it.I started off like you ,I never thought I would be able to burn DVD , but now I never have a failure, and have burnt 5 yellows on the bounce.Btw the Supanet nuisance in the startup is called "Superstatus" , you will need a reg cleaner to remove it , or follow the instructions above in the other posts. If you need any help p.m. me , or if you run Yahoo messenger I am there as "esxman" , on most evenings/weekends.(I dont use Pinnacle cos I do not trust it , altho' its still on my hard-drive, I use it for drag n drop for cds ).
If we cannot get your drive to burn a Datawrite Yellow , I would conclude the drive must be faulty....but we will see . esxman

    Leetony,
Hi yes I am in Essex!
What I would do now if I were you :-
    1. use a lens cleaner,(the cd disc with cleaning solution ), play that in your drive, it shouldnt be neccessary to clean a new drive, but hey who knows, someone vacuumed theirs and it worked!
2.Download the Nero 60015 demo version from Nero's site, and instal it
    3. Pop in a Classic yellow, right click to make sure it recognises it , (should be a full pink circle)
4.try and get Nero to burn it for you ,just untick "burn on the fly" , and see how that goes.

Reading all these messages it seems to me that no one with one of these time machines can back up a movie with any degree of sucsess.Surely that if you all got together as a group then you would get some sought of support.I have now fitted 4 of these burners in different types and configurations of machines and had no probs so it looks like time have an issue. You can load on your own operating system if you wish you dont have to use the recovery cd it may be a conflict in the way its setup. Some interesting reading i came across the other day was that when the recovery cd is ghosted its only the bare bones and not the full box and dice.......

Hi, I have a Time Powerstation which Ive recently got, and Im a bit cautious on using the Matshita DVD Burning drive that came with it, after reading all these messages. I dont know if I would have any problems now, I dont know much about computers but as soon as I powered up the computer after I got it, I ran CHKDSK and it found loads of errors, turned out that the computer just had too many errors. I formatted both hard drives (The powerstation came with 300 GB of HD space over two 150 GB drives) and reinstalled a fresh Windows XP. Would I get any problems??? Thanks

i have bought 25 classic yellow top datawrite, found they burn fine! BUT- they dont play in all dvd players,i have a sony 305s and a tesco cheap brand, they work on sony but not always on tesco cheap brand ,also, sometimes neither of my time dvd player or 9581 will recognise the disks after they are burnt.so sometimes i cannot make a copy of a copy unless i burn the vob files as data only.im using nero 6 to burn-dvd decrypter to rip,and shrink beta to encode,if anyone has any ideas of any better software then let me know.also i am using dvd shrink_as said in my last message-yellow classic dvd-r's-update= bought 25 burnt 3 binned 5 due to 9581 compatibility, now im pulling my f---ing hair out, how much more do i have to waste on this drive? if i phone time ,they will say return the complete computer back ,cost-(i heard from good sources £70 ,so why send back complete thing when it is only the dvd rw drive.any comments from anyone in my situation still,? i would appreciate your comments.

Use DVD Shrink. It's a free program and is very easy to use. It stores all the compressed files on your hd and will allow you to make umpteen copies.

been in touch with time customer support- they recomend re-load disk, means loosing everything on compo-so no ill not do that! then if fault still their ,then return back to base ,with the collect and delivery charge of around £40.so conclusion- buy better dvd writer! not worth returning!

I too have a Time 3809 with the Matshita DVD-RAM SW-9581. I've only used DVD-RW for back-up once, so can't comment. But I have come up against a problem trying to write to Pressit eBusiness cards. For anyone not familiar these are credit card size & shape. Hold 30Mb. Designed to be used in any CD-R drive. But mine insists there's no disc in the drive. Your suggestions would be welcome. Thanks.

I'm told by a reliable source that the A106 will burn to any disk! He said the problem was more likely to be with the dvd player being able to read all disks.

My Panasonic SW9581 is set on region 2 with 4 possible changes. Does anyone know if there is any software or firmware available to increase the number of changes available. Better still, is it possible to make it multi-region.

I also have this drive and have had no problems at all with it!....i must be the 1st one then!..lol...im using Clad DVD ripper to rip them to the HD and selecting full dvd back up (CAN ONLY BE USED ON WINDOWS XP). then pinnacle to resize it if its over 4.3gb in size and again no problems at all. I also use Nero 6 to burn dvd files if its under 4.3gb, just put the all the dvd files into a VIDEO_TS folder and select UDF DVD ROM in Nero and it works great. Avoid DVD2ONE cos its crap especially on dual layer dvd's. because of the quality. (very pixelly). And since using Pinnacle for doing straight one2one copies which takes on average 50mins to encode its been flawless!....hope this helps anybody...

HBell, thanks for your suggestion. Unfortunately DVD Region-free does not support the Matshita (Panasonic) SW9581. Although it states that on their website, I still downloaded a version & tried it but they are right, it does not work. Do you know of anything else I can try?
