    Boss,
The search application was part of what I was thinking of with my suggestion, so I'm glad to see you're thinking the same thing ;)

Vurbal: Goody, I think the idea might be worth implementing. But as said, everything takes a loong time (as I'm the sole developer here and try to maintain various other aD -related tasks as well, in addition to "real life" commitments).

Btw. if I were you, I'd be slightly worried; when people start thinking the way i do, typically the local mental care specialists get involved with the case..

No big deal on the time. You'll get to it eventually, and I'd rather see it done right than fast. On the subject of mental health, I'd have said the same thing about thinking like me, but as my dad liked to say - Great minds run in the same gutter ;)

Iam really happy to see so many good ideas coming up for this one and so much support.Obviously this can not be done over night which we all appreciate. But this will give everyone a good chance to put all there thoughts and suggestions forward.I really do hope this one gets up and running. We always have a lot of people who do some great post's and i feel this will encourage more of the same.
    Thanks

The one issue I have about voting on a post is ... some threads are not solved by just one post. You all know of those threads where someone has a problem, and they do a very poor job of explaining. So to help we post suggestions (short answers). Then after a bunch of suggestions the problem may get solved ... so instead of one post, that member may have 6-10 posts(but was very helpful in that thread). If we allow ourselves to vote on various single posts, there could be the potential of a post that covers way too much information, which can then be cut and pasted in the threads they may apply to. Some people need one or two fixes, and some need more (and for those who need just one or two fixes, they shouldn't have to read through an excellent post on how to fix/change everything). <---- did this make sense :)

If you do wanna vote ... how about have a voting scale on how helpful that member was in a particular thread, and not his post.

    An interesting idea.

[bold]would this just be a popularity contest or could you actually discriminate?[/bold]

I think Prisoner’s right that this could easily devolve into a popularity contest. By what criteria do we choose from, the most helpful, the most knowledgeable, or the most creative? Do we choose winners from each status group?

I do however like the idea of making it a newbie, junior member, and member award. As we all know many newbies and members do a lot of the assisting on AD and many of them are also among the most knowledgeable of AD members.

I have noticed since started this thread alot of people are going on about the amount of post's and the size of the post.I do hope that it will go on quality. So what if someone has pasted a few bits and bobs from a guide. Were missing the point here this means the guy has took time out to find the information and pass it on.Some times it will be long maybe this person is someone that wants to put all the details in for someone to follow. If you break it down in short it does not always help.Who cares how long or short it is or where they got the information from it is quality we are looking for.Look at scuba pete he has some really long post's but it normally covers everything and he takes the time out which is a real plus for this site as it means more will join.Lets stick with quality and this will be the winner.

i would think it to be useful for the award to goto newbies/juniors/members only :)

What a hot potatoe. Honors would be nice for some, but the chance for abuse is definitely there. Me, I prefer a good hearty thank you any day. Plus, if one works hard, they can get more of them (thank yous) than a single award. Sort of where one has their priorities is part of the question; or is that solution?

Mayhaps I should expand my post :)

The "Member of the Month" would be chosen from Newbies, Juniors and Members. As John pointed out, it would be based on the quality of the posts and not quantity as quantity may very well reduce the forum to an over abundance of garbage.

The determination of the "Award" would be decided by the Mods, as they are "everywhere" more than most. A thread might be established for the purpose of nominating a Newbie, Junior or Member but would not be an influencing factor in the final "Award" decision. The thread would be there more for those who feel that someone deserving might be overlooked.

Only those who have been in the forum for a full month would be eligible.
Any member chosen for "The Member of the Month" would not be eligible again for consideration for a full calendar year.

The "Award" itself would be in the form of "Postie" on the forum's main page, in color.

    My thoughts only,

Suggestions, modifications and comments more than welcome -

    "P".

Outstanding idea Prae, that would divide those with increasing experience into proper groups of their peers. That would even the playing field quite a bit :)

It would also make the choices much easier for thems that have to make it :D)

Ya can't be any fairer than that -

I agree with the proposal of Praetor and Pete. Let there just be suggestions from the rank and file and leave the decision to the Mods for newbie, junior, and member of the month. That way if something fouls up, we know who to ask. 8~D

I agree, Praetor never seems to sleep and when he's at his best, it makes it a joy to be here. I also agaree with ScubaPete, he's the newbie ambassador to AD and graced with the patience of Job.

I thought that was clearly stated when I said the "patience of Job."
