wrong,,, the yahoo screw up isn't what I'm talking about at all. cdcoverscc has the kind of system I'm on about, just like moviechaos does.
People can thank somebody for a particular post.. it logs "thanked x number of times".. and on link from there shows which other posts the member has been thanked for, and who thanked them.

Think before calling people names.. I run some sites and admin a couple of others. Some have had various karma and thanks systems. Most don't work.. the one on cdcovers seems to work well, but they are a nice community, not a bunch of n00bs and opinionated a$$hats ;)

Yeah, well, if you were a pornstar, Jan, I'd have a premium subscription to your website. :)

You have a subscription to my site as it is... Just haven't heard from you over there for close on a year... Even after I found why your phone wasn't sending texts. XD

You've switched addresses so many times (or so it seems) that I don't remember which one is which. You should PM me the proper ones again. :)

    'fraid i for one don't like ideas like this, one reason (out of a few) is that it would just take forever on a site like this/as big as this; well more than forever. It would only work on a real small site;
While it's on my mind there's a work-related forum i know of, with professional IT members. It was a great site for many years, information you needed to solve very complex work issues etc. Then a points type system was introduced. Guess what happens now - some of the most respected people on there spend far too much time talking about/chasing up points for posts. Just bizarre, and quite pointless.
Great for people with (far too much) time on their hands, not great for any kind of useful constructive reason.

It's easy enough to just drop a "thanks" post on the end of some really good information. Twice in the last month I have felt the need to specifically thank somebody for really good info about dvd-a and the encryption/menus and other subfustication that is used.

yeah i think 'thanks' is sufficient; granted a lot of posters don't come back and actually thank anyone but it's certainly less time consuming; must admit i don't normally thank regulars who have helped noobs but the sentiment is there regulars :)

no idea, think there's a thread somewhere detailing the amount of users at that time... but there's probably about 1376 times the population of China (and that's just in the DVB forums) :p

LOL! Yea I briefly looked around, but couldn't find it. I just wanted to compare it to another forum I belong to that has a system like this that seems to be well maintained.

why don't we just give out gold stars next to the members names who do good things like in grade school!

Well maintained with 200 members is one thing... well maintained with 300,000 members is quite another.

All this ranks/karma etc stuff is BS. I have only ever seen it ruin communities, not add to them.

    "new member" "member" message_ends.

    755,000+

And regarding the "rep system", we've seen such system to "go pear-shaped" on a forum very similar to ours, although bit smaller, thus we have no intention to introduce the karma/rep system to our forums anymore.

The website I'm referring to has 60,000 + members. No where near as many as aD. But no telling how many people are lurking..

Really, I was just bored at work and thought about it, so I posted it here.

Trippy, don't be jealous that I've been chatting online with babes all day.

Besides, we both know that I'm training to be an aD mod.
