I downloaded XBMC 2008-11-13 8.10 and ftp'd it to my XBOX. Everything was working fine. After that, I followed the instructions so that XBMC would automatically load on bootup. I downloaded xbe shortcut and followed their instructions. Long story short. After I did everything and restarted my xbox it went to the service screen and showed error 13. After that I couldn't ftp back into my xbox. I looked around and saw some people talking about a Slayer Evox Boot Disk...so I tried using it. That didn't help and now I'm still getting the service screen, but now it shows error 16. I'm a little lost as to what to do. I know there's other posts out there on this, but I don't understand what they're talking about. I'm a total newb and I need someone to spell it out for me. Here's the other issue. My xbox was softmodded, but not by me. I don't have any of the equipment the guys used to soft mod it for me. So, I can't repeat what he did. All I have to work with is my xbox. The thing is, if I could just access my XBOX and replace that "xboxdash.xbe" file with the original one I think everything would work fine, but that's hard to do when you can't ftp to your xbox. Well, what do I do now?
Well first you're going to do some reading http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/332766 Once you've read through that you're going to attempt a hotswap. If i were you i'd make sure you pull the IDE cable from the dvd drive to get error 12 then load xplorer360. Just replace that file and supposedly you should be set. If you have your eeprom backed up or the person that modded your xbox has the eeprom you can easily fix it without any potential damage to your xbox. There have been people in the past that have attempted a hotswap and had the hard drive re-lock on them while transfering files, which corrupts that partition. Just be careful and follow the directions and don't take your time. Hotswap, load the pc, replace the file and make sure before you turn off your xbox the hdd is connected to the xbox again. Also read this tutorial, you can use either one. http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/548462 If you have any questions or need further help either pm me or leave it here.
My computer has all SATA cables. However, there's IDE connectors on the motherboard. Do I just need to hook up an IDE cable to my motherboard and use that to connect the XBOX HDD to my PC? What do I do with my PC HDD and PC DVD that are hooked up to SATA connectors? Does the fact that I'm using Windows Vista matter? I ask, because it seems like most of the tutorials for hotswapping were down on older versions of windows. I'm confused about when to pull the IDE out of the XBOX DVD to get error 12. Should I unplug that IDE cable from the DVD then turn on the XBOX and then quickly do the IDE cable switch on the HDDs? Or should I do these separate?
Just try to use the ide port on your computer. If it doesn't work then you'll have to find another way. Open up the xbox, get the hard drive so you can switch it out, it usually involves taking it out of the caddy. -Run your ide cable out of the computer case so you can easily connect it to the xbox. -Start up your computer and press the pause/break key to pause the computer. -Unplug the ide cable going to the dvd drive and start your xbox. -You will see error 12 pop up on the screen, then disconnect your hdd ide from the xbox and connect the hard drive to the ide from the computer. -Press any key and it will continue loading. Then follow the tutorial.
Woohoo!!! I FIXED TI!!! The difficult part was with Xplorer360. I had two versions on my PC. At first, neither recognized the xbox HD...even after scanning in the Device Manager. Anyway, I kept playing with the device manager and I finally got it to recognize the HD. I fixed all the xbe files and viola...it worked! Thanks man, I'd buy you a beer if I could.
lol if it was that way, i'd be drunk 24hrs a day from afterdawn users. Glad it worked, if you have anymore questions let me know.
I was curious about one thing. Why doesn't everyone use the Error 12 method where you pull the IDE cable from the DVD drive? With the other method you have to quickly exchange IDE cables, which seems a lot more difficult.
Over time we found out that inducing error 12 will keep the hard drive unlocked as long as it's powered. The other way will sometimes lock the hard drive while you're using it and it can corrupt data big time. When i first did a hotswap back in 2004 i would just wait until it started to load the ms dash then pull the hard drive. It stayed unlocked for me but i rushed through it because i didn't want to mess around with repartitioning the hard drive. Anyway it all comes from years of finding ways to make certain things work. We're still experimenting on the xbox 360 but we have found certain ways to make it do what we want. It's like this with everything, it's just experimenting and finding a easier way to complete the task.
