i believe it's kinda like your serial no. for your x-box it's how M$ keeps track of things. everytime log on live they check your epprom which i think is associated with your user name, but there is is some lea way with the username. there was a link somewhere that showed you how to get back if banned.

Well I don't know exactly where to find it, but your Eeprom is what controls what kind of xbox you have, whether it's PAL or NTSC. The videoswitch affects your Eeprom, which will allow it to play PAL games or NTSC games. It's kind of like a tracker that M$ uses for Xbox Live.

Don't even need to read all of the posts, I can deffinitly believe that Microsoft does spy on its users :)

Well for 2 reasons I say this,
    1. Product testing and feedback. This can be a legitamate claim as they may wish to know how thier product is being used for future reference for other products. The downside to this is, it is an invasion of privacy if the user does not allow or request this. Something I do not approve of.

    2. I hate Microsoft the coperation...

Back to what was said earlier, so even if you turn off the mod chip you can't get on live if you've tried with it on before?

you guys and your xbox live ;) thats one of the things i love about ps2, online play is free!

all i wanted to do was use my 'free' trial to xbox live that i got with halo 2. and use i tto play star wars battlefront. you cant do it without a credit card, what the hell do i need a credit card for. i dont have a credit card.

I did a google search for it but I think it's Xbconnect.com or something like that. If your Xbox is modded this is the only way to get online with your Mod enabled,or you can disable the chip to get on Xlive. I've heard from a couple of mod sites that they are coming out with an Xbox case that holds 2 or 3 hard drives including your original Xbox HD and a toggle switch to disable the chip. Apparently, this case is only out in Japan if i'm correct. The only drawback to xbconnect is that they only have a select amount of new games, I know Halo 2 is on there because I was playing it online with the system link option.
