UPC Communications Ireland Limited, which trades primarily under the brand name Chorus NTL, is Liberty Global Europe's operation in Ireland. It is part of the UPC Broadband division of Liberty, UPC being an abbreviation of that company's previous name, United Pan-Europe Communications

    History

Liberty Global and its predecessors UGC Europe and Tele-Communications Inc have had shareholdings in Chorus Communications and its predecessor, Princes Holdings (Irish Multichannel), since the company's formation in the early 1990s. Originally a joint venture with Independent News and Media, IN&M sold its shares to Liberty in 2004. In May 2005, NTL agreed to sell its Irish operations NTL Ireland (previously Cablelink) to Liberty Global. Morgan Stanley held the shareholding until Competition Authority approval was obtained. This occoured in December 2005 and UPC Ireland came into being on 12 December 2005.

even chorus is really about 10 mergers/takeovers starting i think with fonny cliffords cable company in limerick way back when i remember if it worked for a day without being hacked into was great . hacking into then was cutting the cable and every1 after the cut was without a signal.often done with a hatchet to hack the cable.. hence the name hacking..lol

    Hi,
First let me say that I have a very serious problem with the word "engineer" being used to describe a brain donor either sitting on the end of a phone line or coming to my house to fix a simple cable problem. To me, an engineer is a person who goes to college to study a subject, earn a degree in that subject & actually understand the subject. NONE of the people that I have had the misfortune of dealings with fit any 1 of the above, so I really do wish people would stop using the term engineer to describe them!! Being able to recite a few technical terms that you do not understand has never impressed me.
What people fail to understand or see hers is that to provide a proper service requires a very good understanding of RF techniques, things like attenuation, vswr, mis-match, terminating impedance etc, & thats before you even get to all the analogue or digital buzz words.
If anyone can find one of those "engineers" who can explain any one of the above terms I'll be glad to call them a reasonable techie. BTW, there may be people reading this rant who know who I am by now, but i feel i should explain that I have worked in the field of RF for over 30 years both lecturing, designing, repairing & as a Radio Ham

you cannot use a cable box with a dish plus you can not load free to air channels on a box, free to air equals satelite dish plus satelite box.

For those effected by the Nagra2 changeover by N*L in Dublin. The delivered cost of a Kryptview A750 box is approx €115 (stillable to decode Nagra2). If as suggested the Nagra3 changeover won't fully happen until the end of 2009. This represents 8 months of Movies & sports (and everything else) @ approx €60 per month = €480. Sounds like good value to me!! Any reasons why I'm wrong with these assumptions, please reply?
