    Hello.
Found this forum on google, tried reading all posts like twice, still no success with my stupid phone.

I have C650, connecting with a USB cable; WIN XP Home, SP2.
I downloaded v1.23, updated with v2, LiveUpdate'd to most recent. Everything installed without a glitch.

But it wouldn't detect my phone! It's stuck on "Initializing..." forever.

Then I tried manually installing the Motorola modem in my Phone and Modem Settings. The list of drivers is there,
    Q. Which one do I pick?
but when I try to install, the only port it gives me as an option is COM1. My internal modem is on COM3. First I uninstalled it - still COM1 available only. Then I disabled - same result. Then I uninstalled and restarted - it was back in its place on COM3. Then I switched the internal modem from COM3 to COM2, which worked, however, once again only COM1 available for Motorola.

I am not too computer-savvy... so please pretty please help <:(
And if the answer has been posted before, please give me a link or something...

My best thanks to all phone geeks (in the best sence of the word!)
    :)

ok.. here is my problem... i've dowloaded MPT about 2 months ago, used recommendations from this forum and everything worked just perfectly. about 2 weeks ago it stoped working and now i cannot download anything to my motorola v220. i have no idea what happened. i tried to reinstall the software but still no change. it says that there has been an error during connection and simply cannot detect the phone... the program itself is working... does anybody has any ideas???

Turn your phone off then power up while still connected to the computer. It should detect it then. To gem 20, no i don't know of any links to download Data Pilot from but iv'e heard you could theorhetically buy it, take it home, copy the disk, bring it right back and get your money back. That would be your best buy, i mean best bet.

Happy to be of help. You know how sometimes your computer screws up and the only thing that will fix it is to reboot? Well, think of your phone as a mini computer(it is anyway) and sometimes you have to reboot it. Any time my computer wouldn't recognize my phone i either pull out the usb cable while the program is just begun then put it back, or i reboot the phone, always while the program is running. EVERYONE WITH A V3 RAZR LISTEN UP. If you guys or gals are having problems with the MPT Initializing... your phone, I have figured out how to do it. I have Windows XP SP2.

Before you start any of this, make sure that your phone is not plugged into the USB connection. Make it seem as if the phone and the computer were never together.

    1. Go to Control Panel-->System-->Hardware-->Device Manager.
    2. Expand "Modems" and make sure that there are not any unusual modems under the expanded category. In other words, only ONE should be installed and it should be the modem that is in your computer, nothing else.
    3. Download and Install MPT v3.11. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO INSTALL YOUR PHONE. When it asks to detect your phone, click cancel.
    4. The default phone picture will come up. Now, go to Menu-->Setup-->Live Update. Follow the prompts to detect, download and install MPT v3.25b.
    5. Do not launch MPT. Make sure the program is closed.
    6. NOW, plug your phone into your computer via the mini-USB cable. Your computer should detect "New Hardware." Your computer will prompt you to install the software. It will ask you if you want the computer to search for you (Recommended) or it will ask you if you want to manually select the software from a list (Advanced). Make sure you go to the option that allows you to select from a list.
    7. It will ask you to search your computer hard drive. You need to direct it to the driver that comes in the MPT v3.25b you just installed. Click BROWSE. The folder you are looking for is titled "W2K_XP_USB_Drivers". It will most likely be in "C:\Program Files\mobile PhoneTools\Inf".
    8. Once you have directed the computer to search for the driver in "W2K_XP_USB_Drivers", click on INSTALL or NEXT to continue with the "search and installation" of the phone. It should say "Motorola USB Modem" as it is installing.
    9. Allow the entire process to complete. Once it is done and you have clicked FINISH, unplug your phone from the USB cable and power it OFF.
    10. Turn your phone back on and allow it to cycle to the main screen.
    11. Plug your USB cable back into your phone and make sure it is connected to the computer. Your phone should start charging.
    12. NOW, start MPT and and the program should automatically detect your phone and start the initiallizing. In a few seconds you should be up and running.

I have spent hours figuring this out. I have since followed these steps to the T on 2 seperate computers and have been very successful, with no problems, on the first installation attempts. If you have any questions or need clarification on the steps, let me know and I will try to go into even more detail. Good luck.

to czhill: Im sorry that it took you hours to figure out something that i posted a few comments earlier. What you are saying to do is the long version of what i said. Instead of playing around in the programs and devices just reboot your phone while it is hooked up to the usb and is in the process of the program. By the way, you can only temporarily delete the extra non functioning modems from devices. Every time you boot up they will reappear. What would you rather do, go through all that crap over and over , or just reboot your phone? Everbody's a scientist simple keep it simple

To sayaen: I'm sorry it took me hours to do as well. I actually read your post as I was going through the thread. I wouldn't have posted me previous comment unless I thought the extra detail was useful to someone. Hopefully it will be. Thanks for the power cycle idea.

The install that Angyalka posted looks, to me, like it does not have the Multimedia Studio. Is there any way of getting that?

Does the program posted by Angyalka work for motoroloa v220? I installed it and followed the directions, but it would not complete the setup for my v220 phone when I plugged it in...

It seems that program posted by Angyalka only works with "unlocked" phones, as it states in one of the opening screens. I have an unlocked V300 and a locked V180. It will only work with the V300. And even with the V300, I could not get the picture transfer to work.

I am having the same issue as a few have had on this board. Motorola V265. Got the usb cable from radio shack. I have tried the mpt, p2kman, gagin etc...

The system continues to instal the phone as motorola comp modem.

I have done the live update through mpt and the cell lights up like its trying to connect, but it just sticks at initializing......

    Thanks in advance,
