    Geminigirl, that´s cool. Here´s the real "motto":
    Theory is when everybody knows everything but nothing works;
    Practice is when everything works but nobody knows why;
    MPT is theory combined with practice: nothing works and nobody knows why...

    I've just bought a V220 and was browsing through this thread - very helpful :)

    I was just about to post a question about setting up MobilePhoneTools when I stumbled across this page: http://www.ic.sunysb.edu/Stu/cdigiamo/tutorial/v220/tut.html
    It outlines the process step-by-step.
    Just one thing - it says you need PST and MIDway... you don't. Just P2K and MPT. The other two are for Java stuff.

    Great thread, everyone :D

    mossy! you're the man!

    i followed your steps on uninstalling everything (because it was all a mess) and do it from scratch again, and use the p2kman drivers for the modem. it works like a charm!

    i literally just joined tonight just to say thank you! you really lifted a big burden and frustration off of me!

    Ive gotten MPT 3.11h running and able to detect my V551 phone through the help on this forum. After I rebooted my computer, however, Windows cannot detect my phone when i plug in the USB. I looked on the device manager, turned off/on my phone, and used Add Hardware to search for it but to no avail. Im using Windows SP2 with firewall off. I have no modem installed. I ruled out the cable as a problem because when plugging to another computer without MPT, Windows is able to detect a New Hardware.

    Can anyone figure out this issue I'm having and how to get MPT to work again. Many thanks.

    henrock, i would suggest you skip MPT 3.11 and install 1.23, update it to either 2.16 or 2.21, and then do a live update to the latest version , which seemingly is 3.25

    i think 3.11 isn't that stable, at least that's my experience with it.

    oh yeah, uninstall all your stuff like 3.11, including the motorola USB modem.

    reboot your system, then install the motorola usb modem (your phone), using p2kman drivers, (choose the "install from specific location" option). then do what i said above, install 1.23 -> 2.xx and do live update (if you wish). i stuck with 2.16, it does what i need it to do and i dont want to screw up by accident by upgrading it to 3.xx

    oh yeah, since you're using SP2, you will have problems with installing 1.23, you'll most likely get an error message, but dont press OK, but instead go to task manager and end the installation prematurely, which will prevent it from uninstalling the files it just installed, then update it to 2.16.

    you can find these 1.23, 2.16/2.21, p2kman drivers at http://www.free.cz/motorola

    good luck with it!

    All of the current drivers can be found here:

    http://www.savefile.com/files/2979508

    @henrock
    I'm assuming you already attempted the installation. If you did, it sounds like the wrong driver was used. This driver will only show up when your phone is plugged in. Regardless of what driver is used, when you plug the phone in via USB, your computer will see the phone and use the driver you installed. This is why the Add New Hardware Wizard does not pop up. It is because the computer recognizes the phone, only with the wrong driver. If you have your phone plugged in, go to Device Manager to delete the modem. You have to have your phone plugged in if you want to be able to delete your driver. After you delete it, unplug it, power cycle your phone, then plug it back in, and the Add New Hardware Wizard should come up.

    I have Windows XP SP2.

    Before you start any of this, make sure that your phone is not plugged into the USB connection. Make it seem as if the phone and the computer were never together.

    1. Go to Control Panel-->System-->Hardware-->Device Manager.
    2. Expand "Modems" and make sure that there are not any unusual modems under the expanded category. In other words, only ONE should be installed and it should be the modem that is in your computer, nothing else.
    3. Download and Install MPT v3.11. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO INSTALL YOUR PHONE. When it asks to detect your phone, click cancel.
    4. The default phone picture will come up. Now, go to Menu-->Setup-->Live Update. Follow the prompts to detect, download and install MPT v3.25b.
    5. Do not launch MPT. Make sure the program is closed.
    6. NOW, plug your phone into your computer via the mini-USB cable. Your computer should detect "New Hardware." Your computer will prompt you to install the software. It will ask you if you want the computer to search for you (Recommended) or it will ask you if you want to manually select the software from a list (Advanced). Make sure you go to the option that allows you to select from a list.
    7. It will ask you to search your computer hard drive. You need to direct it to the driver that comes in the MPT v3.25b you just installed. Click BROWSE. The folder you are looking for is titled "W2K_XP_USB_Drivers". It will most likely be in "C:\Program Files\mobile PhoneTools\Inf".
    8. Once you have directed the computer to search for the driver in "W2K_XP_USB_Drivers", click on INSTALL or NEXT to continue with the "search and installation" of the phone. It should say "Motorola USB Modem" as it is installing.
    9. Allow the entire process to complete. Once it is done and you have clicked FINISH, unplug your phone from the USB cable and power it OFF.
    10. Turn your phone back on and allow it to cycle to the main screen.
    11. Plug your USB cable back into your phone and make sure it is connected to the computer. Your phone should start charging.
    12. NOW, start MPT and and the program should automatically detect your phone and start the initiallizing. In a few seconds you should be up and running.

    hi folks, my phone and MPT decided not to get along again, it worked well for 5 min and then it stopped working, the phone skin changed it's status to initializing... and finally it gave up with a little icon indicating that the ports or whatever can't communicate between MPT and my phone. ironically when i just load MMCenter.exe by itself, i am able to browse my phone and transfer back and forth.

    anyways, cUNIT, im going to try your guide if my MMCenter decides to give up on me...im currently using 3.11, but since MMCenter is all that i really want, im going to leave it as is because i might screw it up even more which will suck.

    thanks for your guide though, it looks promising! :)

    @cUNIT, will that method you posted work for the v265 or is there something different i have to do? do i have to use those drivers on that site you listed to get MPT to work for the MMcenter? thanks

    I have a V3, but I am thinking that it will work for most Motorola phones. v3.11 is VERY flaky, so when you upgrade to 3.25b, that should fix a lot of problems. The link I posted contains all drivers that come with v3.25. I posted that for people that are having trouble updating to v3.25 (those who have dial-up or a bad connection). They can just drag and drop that Inf file into the Program Folder of Motorola Phone Tools and delete the old Inf file.

    I have a present for you all.

    http://www.savefile.com/files/2042696

    Install this version then run Live Update to get to v3.25. Follow my tutorial and this version will work...hopefully.

    hi cUNIT, im trying to d/l that file (mobile phonetools deluxe), but it's going fairly slow and it always ends prematurely at only 5-7mb. do you by any chance know the direct link to the file? so i can use a download accelerator/resume option.

    wassup ja,

    when i followed mossy's guide, i used p2kman driver.

    before you read on, bear in mind that MPT only worked for 5 min before it said that the port communication broke, and ever since then i never got it to work again. however, after screwing around for a while, i got it to work with 3.11, i'll explain to the best of my knowledge of what i did to get it to work with 3.11 after my guide of what mossy suggested below.

    ===================
    what i did was that i completely uninstalled everything related to MPT & the Motorola USB modem.

    then i installed the USB modem first, and when it asked me whether i'd like to install automatically or from a specific location, i chose specific location. and i browsed to the p2kman folder. reboot.

    after that i installed 1.23 (if you have the crash in the middle of the installation, then just go to task manager and end the installation prematurely). after that i updated it to 2.16..then reboot, keep in mind that i never opened MPT at any point during this process, nor did i unplug the phone from the USB cable.

    now after the computer loads up i open MPT. it asked me about inputting my area code, i hit cancel and another message pops up and i hit Yes/OK, and it takes me back to where it prompts for my area code and i hit cancel again and then press Yes/OK and it will finally take me to MPT and it actually detects my phone as it has my v300 skin. it initializes and you'll know it's done when it shows your phone provider's name, i.e. (Cingular) etc.

    ============

    as for how i got it work with 3.11...is rather trivial, all i did was to uninstall all the stuff again, and i installed 3.11, then when i installed the phone, i used the driver that comes with 3.11 in the "inf" folder.

    i gave it a wild shot and it actually initalized my phone. and i opened MMCenter and it worked. but then my phone went back to a never ending initializing status loop, but my MMCenter still worked regardless of that. ever since then, i just open MMCenter (which u can find in the mobile Phonetools folder) by itself without opening the actual MPT application, it's working for me like this, so i dont intend to tweak it in any way or form until it flakes out on me again.

    but if what i told you doesnt work then you should go with cUNIT's suggestion of installing 3.11 and then updating it to 3.25 (the phone being uninstalled up to this point) and when you install the phone, you use the 3.25 drivers, which he has provided as well in that link.

    good luck to yah!

    Just FYI ..

    I've uploaded the 3.23 -> 3.25b update to:

    http://s1.ultrashare.net/hosting/fs/3b2f2b54c38464c6/

    I have a Win2000 Pro setup so folders may be different.
    The update files save to (on my machine):

    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\BVRP Software\mobile PhoneTools\LiveUpdate

    and the .dat file has the same pointer on the second line (which you may need to edit with a simple text editor, if it's different)

    So you just install MPT323, but don't run the program .. unrar the update and dat file to the above Liveupdate folder .. then start the program .. it will then ask you if you want to install the update .. just click OK/install .. and it's done .. MPT 3.25b

    Hope this helps all

    Hello ALL:

    Quick question...

    My wife has Verizon and a new E815. I believe she had some version of MPT2.0. She did an update and got v3.25b (I think). Anyway, the E815 works fine.

    However, I believe that this is not the Deluxe version. I did d/l ver 3.11 Deluxe from here thanks to cUNIT, and can install that and get the update, but is there any need?

    I guess what I am asking is with Verizon/E815 will Deluxe get me anything? Also, is there any way to tell if she does have the Deluxe version?

    TIA,

    MP

    I'm pretty sure the 3.23 and upgrades are Deluxe Versions.

    According to the website .. if you have stuff like Multimedia Studio .. and the ability to make different Profiles .. you already have the Deluxe version.

    Apparently .. those aren't included in the Lite version of mobile phone tools.

    Great, I will see if she has profiles and MM studio. I believe she is running 3.25b. As I said, she does not know if she had deluxe or not but I will check! Where can I look for the ability to create multi profiles? Also, is MM Studio off the main app picture of her phone onscreen? You can see that all I did was set it up! :)

    Yes, an entirely seperate window is opened along with a tutorial of how to use each MMStudio option. When you start MPT, a window opens asking what profile you want to use. It has a default profile, cleverly titled 'Default' or you can create your phone with the 'Create Profile' option, at least that is what I think it is called. Regardless, you can do it from there.
