    1. Go to Control Panel-->System-->Hardware-->Device Manager.
    2. Expand "Modems" and make sure that there are not any unusual modems under the expanded category. In other words, only ONE should be installed and it should be the modem that is in your computer, nothing else.
    3. [bold]Download and Install MPT v3.11. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO INSTALL YOUR PHONE. When it asks to detect your phone, click cancel.
    4. The default phone picture will come up. Now, go to Menu-->Setup-->Live Update. Follow the prompts to detect, download and install MPT v3.25b.[/bold]
    5. Do not launch MPT. Make sure the program is closed.
    6. NOW, plug your phone into your computer via the mini-USB cable. Your computer should detect "New Hardware." Your computer will prompt you to install the software. It will ask you if you want the computer to search for you (Recommended) or it will ask you if you want to manually select the software from a list (Advanced). Make sure you go to the option that allows you to select from a list.
    7. It will ask you to search your computer hard drive. You need to direct it to the driver that comes in the MPT v3.25b you just installed. Click BROWSE. The folder you are looking for is titled "W2K_XP_USB_Drivers". It will most likely be in "C:\Program Files\mobile PhoneTools\Inf".
    8. Once you have directed the computer to search for the driver in "W2K_XP_USB_Drivers", click on INSTALL or NEXT to continue with the "search and installation" of the phone. It should say "Motorola USB Modem" as it is installing.
    9. Allow the entire process to complete. Once it is done and you have clicked FINISH, unplug your phone from the USB cable and power it OFF.
    10. Turn your phone back on and allow it to cycle to the main screen.
    11. Plug your USB cable back into your phone and make sure it is connected to the computer. Your phone should start charging.
    12. NOW, start MPT and and the program should automatically detect your phone and start the initiallizing. In a few seconds you should be up and running.

Hi cUNIT, thanks for the info! I removed MPT and reinstalled it to make sure I was back at the default phone. I get as far as step 4 and when I go to menu-setup, all it shows is General Setup in black, and three other greyed-out choices, none of which are live update. Any suggestions?

    Thank you!

You could go to General Setup-->Internet and make sure that your connection says LAN, or you have the appropriate information in the Dial-Up box. I believe the problem is that it cannot detect an internet connection, therefore, the update option is unavailable. Let me know if this works.

no luck. "LAN" was already selected. The dialup box is greyed out.

When I try to open the program now it takes a long time to load, and first a Devise Configuration Wizard comes up. Motorola USB motem is selected, then I hit next, and Motorola GSM is selected, and a list of phones, none of which are mine. After I cancel out of that the default phone comes up and says "initializing", and the only item available under setup in general setup.

Could there be a problem with the modem? I have downloaded the p2k driver and unzipped it, what do I do with it now?

Question: I have a V600 and recently installed MPT on my Win XP. I updated to the latest version before doing anything else. I hooked up via USB and est. a verrified connection. I went to multimedia and tryed to extract my photos to my PC and an error message popped up and said I wasn't able to do so, I know I was connected because multimedia wont open if you are not. How can I load my phoyos to my pc?

    DU1tyme,

Make sure you have the correct driver installed. There are times that you can have a driver installed and MPT seems to work, however the communication between the phone and more importantly, the transfer of information does not flow like it should and the phone denies the transfer. The correct driver 'decodes' the information, making it phone-worthy and the wronger driver decodes the information in a way that the phone cannot read it.

motodude, my problem is that I can't run a live update. I haven't been able to install 3.25 because I don't have a live update option on 3.11?

Try downloading ver 3.23 from a couple posts above and see if that will give you the update option.

kaybrat, 3.11h doesn't update properly thats why you need phone tools 3.23 and then run live update.

    omry,

Check once again to ensure that the correct driver is installed. Go to My Computer and right click, then go to properties-->Hardware-->Device Manager and scroll to modems. It needs to say "Motorola USB Modem".

Now that I'm at my home computer I realize that I have already downloaded 3.23. I just have no idea what to do with it now. I can't run a live update as the version I have downloaded right now won't let me.

kaybrat, uninstall phone tools 3.11h and then reinstall phone tools 3.23. After that run live update using my instructions above.

    motodude,
Thanks so much for all of your help. I managed to get 3.23 installing, but at the end it told me that it wasn't compatible with my version of windows. I only have 98 (I know, very dated!). What is the minimum operating system for 3.23? Am I out of luck or am I doing something wrong?
