    I have a Motorola V551 with Cingular
    I have a USB cable
    I have WinXP SP1
I downloaded MobilePhoneTools from the link on this thread

When installing MPT, I get as far as the dialogue entitled "Phone Setup" (comes right after the dialogue where you specify your connection method... has a picture of an emaciated girl in a man's suit staring at a phone emoting bad attitude)... AND THERE IT STALLS

No amount of back button and try again appears to help. Nothing in the device manager.

Any idea what I am missing?

    TIA

Updated MPT using LiveUpdate. Now I have a pic of a young fellow with an upraised eyebrow and ill fitting pants. Otherwise, all the same. Stalls when finding phone, no Motorola among the listed USBs.

    Must be missing something simple.

I have found a web site for you all to download these much coveted Motorola Mod programs. It is free of charge, no registration, or ads. etc. I have found it very helpful. Enjoy

I have a V262 and am connecting it via Usb cable. I have been able to send ringtones to my phone with mild problems. In the Medoldy Studio when I click on some of my files where it gives the file type, duration, ect. is blank and just has the file name. Then the "Selection" portion of the window is unclickable. I can't play the midi files.

I tried to just use Mobile Explorer to transfer them which worked. When I tried to play them they stopped instantly and would not play.

I would also like to ask about corrupt files. About half or better the files I put on my phone I delete because they are corrupt. Is there anything to fix these files? They play fine on my computer.

BTW- I am using Mobile PhoneTools v 3.25b

Second Edit- I just remember how there are different formats for midis. I remember something about like 1 and 0. Just throwing that out there, could that be the problem?

    Hello,
I'm new - I just downloaded Motorola Phone Tools from a link on this forum.(3.25).
I have a "dead" V400 - I can get it into "Bootloader" mode. I want to transfer triplets to it - to reflash it - to a V600.
Anyway, I have a Motorola USB cable & Phone Tools & it won't recognize the phone. I tried manually adding it (in phone tools) & still nothing - - graphic says "initializing" then "no modem attached".
Help! What am I doing wrong? P.S. It assigned me to Com 1 - is this unusual?
Thanks to anyone that has a suggestion.

when you open the zip in winzip, you have a list of files in the archive...extract them to anyplace you will remember so you can go to that folder ...once you are in winzip you will see on the extreme right side under the heading "path" text that identifies which file is for your operating system ...pick the one for your computer (say windowsXP). Find that one in what you have extracted. If you can't determine which one is it, extract only that one file *.inf and all the other stuff that isn't with a .inf ending to the temporary folder you are using. Then, in that temporary folder, put your cursor on the .inf file in question ...right click and you will see the choice to install, do that! You're done installing the driver. Now, go to control panel and go to device manager or else go start/run/devmgmt.msc and you need to find your usb cable (of course it must be plugged in). It will show in USB devices as "motorola" unless yours is another brand. Right click on that and tell it to update the driver and when you go through, it will find the one for motorola and use it and you are in business!! If you have win98, you need to do other stuff ...you hafta ask someone else ...I dunno!

There are several links in previous messages here where you can download various versions of MPT.
