Stressing the CPU, RAM, mobo...basically all hardware b4 you overclock is called "burning in". its effective most of the time because it gives all the thermal paste, thermal tape, silicon (whatever the chips are made of nowadays) a chance to heat up, loosen up, and set in. I usually burn-in my hardware for a good long time b4 i try a massive overclocking job. after burn-in tests have shown that you cna get slightly higher overclocks. with ch-5 ram it is basically required to burn it in or you cant overclock. the stuff i had i burned for about a week nad look at it! 465mhz, 2.5-2-2-5 @ 2.7V. BIOS is crap im sure i could hit higher going 2.8V+. So yes i would recommend leaving your computer while you DJ (awesome!) and having it loop a benchmark or w/e u decide u like. just make sure in BIOS to set a shutdown temp just incase your fan dies on your CPU or something. very unlikely...

Oh I know lol. I thought it may serve some purpose burning in with a CPU intensive program.

As long as if I set a shutdown temp in the BIOS .. it ACTUALLY shuts down lol. (the fan I ordered is a Vantec fan which runs at about 5700 RPM) :D .. noise is not really an issue here cuz I don't sleep in this room.

I'll set the shutdown temp to 63 .. hopefully I mount my heatsync / apply the compound properly that I won't see this temperature at full load while I'm playing tomorrow night. (thanks for the 'awesome' remark btw) lol.

OK .. installed processor! (running at stock 2 Ghz .. case open temps aroumd 33C) .. i'm gonna close the case and burn in while I head out to play later .. lowest VCore I could set was 1.57) .. I'm gonna see how high I can get it with distributed.net with the case open .. then with the case closed (when I go play) ... then I'll try overclocking it tomorrow

[bold]::UPDATE::[/bold] .. ok so much for not trying to overclock it today lol

Currently, my multiplier is at 12.5 @ 205 FSB (older KingMax PC-3200 RAM w/ bad latencies) lol. Clocks at approximately 2.563 ghz and at max load (running distributed.net for 2 hours) hit about 43C (idle temp at around 36C).

Damn ASUS A7N8X-X lol .. if I had a board that didn't limit my multiplier to 12.5 .. this thing would FLY. [bold](VCORE IS ONLY AT 1.675!!!!!) which is .025 Volts above standard desktop processors!!![/bold] WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE SPEED lol.

Anyhow; will set it to burn in again while I'm playing at the gig. Wish me luck.

is your mobile a 35watt or a 45watt? 1.675 @ 2.563ghz seems too good to be true for a 45watt. i gotta run 1.70 to have it stable at 2.559ghz. nice temps!

My processor is a 45 watt lol.

I got REAL greedy before I left lol. Left my multiplier at 12.5 and raised the FSB to 208 (tried 210 .. that didn't happen) .. left it to run and I JUST got home. (8 1/2 hours running distributed.net RC-5).

I was shocked when I saw my temps were only at 43C and the system was FINE. So my current clock speed is 2600 mhz. I think you're right though; this IS too good to be true!!!!!

Here's my stepping: IQYHA 0346 TPMW

May pick up new RAM in the next month or so and give it another shot then .. I'm scared to overvolt my RAM (it's Kingmax 3200 w/ Vantec heat shields) .. I've never conceived over-volting RAM .. nor do I really wish to risk it (processors are cheap these days .. RAM is not anymore) lol.

[bold]::EDIT:: forgot to mention .. the system was completely unstable at 1.675 running at 12.5 x 208; so I raised the VCore to 1.7[bold] .. who knew .. 37.5 mhz and it gets unstable lol ... that was a good guess on my end it seems lol ... at 43C .. I'm going to close my case and see what happens after an overnight stress test .. gone 2 bed lol ..

OK .. that didn't work lol.

My RAM is crap lol .. I have the chip clocked at 205 x 12.5 at 1.7 VCore (have been compressing video while doing stress tests at 2562mhz for just under a week now .. it runs great (with the case closed under my desk at max load, my temp sits around 49C which isn't bad by any means).

Need good RAM ... need good RAM lol .. (anybody else have mobile scores)??

what temps do you run at 2.565mhz?? i have to run 1.725-1.750V to go that high but i run 232*11 1:1 so its a little different.

I'm sitting around 49 Celicus at MAX load. (after video compression / distributed.net for 48 hours ...)

    What temps are you hitting?

hmm...last week or so ive gone around 32Cidle/50C load...but i have a crap heatsink and fan and some offbrand thermal paste. and this is really weird...i've been idling at 44-48C b4...my computer just sits there and heats up!!! gay...i'm going to have to get a better cooler and a REAL probe in a bit. the ABIT built in one is crap.

    LOL ...

I bought the Vantec Aeroflow (with the TMD Fan) .. it runs at 5000 RPM CONSTANTLY ... but I don't sleep in this room; so I don't care haha. Also have like 3 other case fans running in this thing too. It is a noisy machine; but it works :)

hmm...i got 9 fans total in my case but its not really loud. it has a high pitched CPU fan thats the only one you can really hear a room away if you listen good. im thinking of an sp-97 and like a 90+CFM fan :)
