Okay. Thanks. I've been transfering mp3s like crazy since I've gotten MPT to work because I'm not the one to pay my bill. My dad was concerned about hidden charges and I didn't know what to tell him.

I was able to download the USB Driver and the mobilephonetools_SP1.exe but I need the 'main' program. The links in this post no longer work. Can anyone direct me to a working link that has what I need? I have the V220 Phone. Thanks!

sa 2001, the right hand pane of the Melody Studio window doesn't respond to the mouse. Can't drag and drop into it.

There's another way to transfer MP3 files from PC to phone, as in my earlier (long) post, but they get corrupted.

Maybe updating to the latest version would fix it. I don't think I'm running v3.19 but I can't find any way to live update.

so i see i have the same problem as many others, with this *brrrrilliantly* set up motorola software.

anyway yeah, i downloaded mobile phone tools from one of the links here. then i downloaded the drivers from http://www.the-creation.com/v600/drivers.htm (as someone also posted)

but the p2k driver is a bit weird... the folder i get is just a bunch of .inf files. and one .sys file. and I have no idea what to do with them. No installation file.

needless to say, mobile phone tools wont do anything, they just say "initializing......" and nothing more.

so help anyone? how do i install that p2k thingy?

I can do a new KJava, but when I click read from phone, i run into some problems. It starts off ok, and gets past the "Establishing connection with Motorola Phone..." dialog fine. The progress bar gets to 50%, and it says "Suspending phone" The phone does 'seem' to get suspended for a tiny bit, but then it turns itself back on, and after this happens i get an "Interface Error" "Please power cycle phone and repeat operation again.
Does anyone have any idea what could wrong here? installation seemed to work like a charm, I just can't get the darn thing to suspend the phone. Any help is GREATLY appreciated

The transfer button works OK but I can't get an MP3 on to the phone without it somehow getting corrupted on the way. OK, I can live with having to transfer files to the phone one at a time, disconnecting and reconnecting the USB between each attempt, but there's not a lot of point when the files don't work anyway.

It's a pity; it can dial out and it can do fancy stuff with address books, but that's not what I wanted it for.

It's unfashionable to say this, but it's garbage software like this that makes you really appreciate Microsoft.

The thing is many have gotten this software to work fine (even with XP & Service Pack 2 installed). So my guess is that one or more of these is true: your USB cable is bad, the USB port on your phone is flaky, the USB port on your computer is flaky, you have a brand name computer with cheap chipsets causing a hardware conflict, you are getting a poor or no signal on your phone during the time it is connected to your computer, maybe you are a computer dunce (hypothetically speaking), or ....

My point is that there could be a multitude of other things interferring with your ability to use the software. Maybe it's Microsoft software causing the problem. Seeing as how many of us HAVE gotten the software to work fine, the software obviously does work. Sorry you have had trouble.

You are entitled to your opinions, of course. My opinion is still that this software ought to work before it is released to the public.

Maybe there's a conflict with open-source software. I won't bother going through your yawn-making list of possible problems at my end. Life's too short.

The only thing I still have to try is to find out how to live update the thing. But if I'd paid for it, I'd be demanding my money back... :)

It does work. Just not for you. LOL

LOL I wasn't asking you to troubleshoot. I was simply stating that maybe the problem is with YOUR computer and not with the software.

EXACTLY. I would ask for my money back if I was having all these problems as well.

I didn't realize this software was open-source. Is it?

Hey, Im a little bit confused. I've done everything the website says, and my phone is recognized, I can even do most of the commands (like when i go to phonebook and read, it displays all my contacts), but when i go to multimedia center it shows nothing on the phone side, and whenever I try to transfer an mp3, it says cant connect to mobile, or connection lost. I dont think the cord is the problem cuz it can connect to read other things just not send/receive mp3s. Anyone have any ideas? I've been fooling around with this for a few days, I have a motorolav600. Any help would be appreciated

Feel free to IM me br0wnb0mber (the o's are zeroes)

    Thanks

Not just me, I'm sure. Looking at this thread, I'd say that a good proportion of those who have had trouble have either decided to live with the software or given up in disgust.

Everything else on this machine works just fine. I run Windows 2000, not 98, btw.

No, my point was only that open source software is no less likely to fall over or cause conflicts than MS stuff.

Meanwhile, I'm still trying to find out how to do a live update. LOL!

odmedod, I agree with your point on open-source software then. And I was just ribbing you about the software not working for you. ;-)

As far as the Live Update feature is concerned, when you click on the "?" at the bottom of the phone, do you not get a menu where you can select Live Update?

I'm just an average joe user like you and many others who have posted on this board. I agree that many are having problems with this software. I don't know why I haven't had any problems. Maybe Motorola phones suck in general and by some divine order I just happen to have received a v220 and v400 that legitimately passed the QA/QC inspections from the factory and work as advertised. Maybe Motorola screwed up when they hired this company to write this software for them. I don't really know.

This is similar to a situation where I couldn't get a wireless adapter up and running in Linux. A LOT of people said you could do it and had done it; and I followed the instructions to a "T", but for some unknown reason I could NOT get it to work.

So I do feel your pain. However, in this case, it sucks to be the person who can't get the software installed, much less work. Just remember to be glad that you didn't spend the $$ to purchase it.

I've now got it to the stage where the Mobile Explorer will let me drag and drop files into My phone, My pictures, My music and My video.

It lets me drag pictures from the phone to the PC, and they display OK when they get there. That would seem to suggest that the cable and its connections are OK. I use the same cable for other audio purposes and it gives no trouble.

But MP3 files from the PC to the phone? Corrupted every time.

So I seem to have got it doing everything except the one thing I wanted it to do in the first place! :)

br0wn, is your phone receiving a good signal while connected to your computer? If you phone isn't getting a good signal the software won't work. That happened two nights ago with my wife's V400. The signal went to zero and the software basically quit working until the phone could be re-initialized. I know it seems silly since your phone is HARD-connected to the computer.
