Windows Xp sp2 is Window XP (With Service Pack 2)!
If you do not know this, I would proceed with caution while trying to hack your cell phone and p2k drivers.

Hi, I just got a v220 afew weeks ago and decided to try out this phone tools thing... but i keep running into problems.

Ive read about 80% of this topic and im still stuck, and with my busy schedule i just dont have enough time to read each word here -_-

I installed phonetools, up to the lastest version and when i plug my phone in and run the program, it just keeps searching for my phone and trying to install it but never does, instead after about 5mins of searching it skips and a picture of a phone appears which simply stays in the "initializing" phase...
I'm sorry to bea bother, but i really need help. Thanks

I see several people that had the same problem as I have after following A.Beast's instructions.

    Problem:
The screen on the MTP says "Initializing" & have a few icons indicating - "mobile not connected", "Transmission disabled" & "reception diabled". I also realised that somehow my computer (DELL WINXP - SP2) & the MTP program do not detect the phone even when its connected. I don't know if there's something to do with the driver as i downloaded it from that site that A.Beast recommended - I d/led

    - Motorola_MobilePhoneTools_1.23c_EN.zip
    - MTP 2
    - Motorola.Mobile.PhoneTools.v3.11h.Final.Retail.rar
    - P2KTools.rar

I've been trying for the past 5 days and I still don't understand why it's doing the - "initializing.." like my mobile was never there.

Please help you guys can. It will be greatly appreciated.

Near the end of installing, I get this message:
"Error 1406. Could not write value VersionMinor to key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\{CF88712B-16A3-45A1-B6C5-8E6CD0408E61}. Verify thatyou have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel."

Anyway, I click 'ignore' and go on.

After it installs and I bring up MPT, I get this message:

"Mobile Phone not available. Please verify that your mobile phone is connected and powered on. Click on "retry" to start a new connection attempt or "cancel" to stop."

Here is another one that I get after MPT comes up:

    "Error during detection.
Click on "Retry" for another try or on "Next" to choose your device from a list."

Does anyone know what these mean?

    btw, i have win98se, MPT 3.11
    Thanks in advance

For all of you having the "initializing" problem, read my thread of 2/17/05-you do not need the P2K driver or motorola modem download. Your phone is the modem. If you have downloaded these 2 programs, delete them. All you need is MPT 1.23 & 2.21, if you have Windows XP. Also, do not use the MPT version 3.19.

Hello, I installed the software for my Motorola V220 and I'm having trouble uploading the pictures. I can get to the multimedia section but thats it, it does not show any pictures. Does the phone being locked or unlocked have anything to do with this? I'm using mobile phone tools v3.11h. Any suggestions on how I can upload the pics from the phone to my computer? I'm using the Windows XP Home Edition OS. Thanks

Solving problems after a successfull install...

Using Windows XP SP 2, I solved my problems by
Connecting the V220 & using Device Manager to install the Drivers (Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> System ->Hardware -> Device Manager). Choose Intall from a list.
    Location C:\Program Files\Motorola\mobile PhoneTools\inf

Once the Drivers are installed startup Moble Phone Tools software. At the ditection screen disconnect the cable & then re-connect it. As previously mentioned you have to connect your phone (after software startup). Also I have to keep my phone flipped open.

Give it a few minutes to initialize.

As for the Multimedia problem, if it cannot find the "Modem" this could be an issue with your mobile phone provider. After talking to 4 different Cingular Wireless techies... something called MediaNet (I think) had to be activated (free of charge). Once activated everything worked - (the pictures were accessible).

Note: Look under Synchorization rules to see what can be transfered. Photos associated with phone numbers (In Phonebook) are not automatically transfered. Transfer the photos via MM & then associate the pictures on your phone.
