When you say it is an exe. file. Try unzipping it anyway and see what you get. Just right-click it and do it from that menu. I remember mine looked like it was already unzipped but when i extracted the files from the update icon, you get loads more files from inside it. Try that and use te setup icon from the v2.21.

The best thing is, mine ain't working no more either. i can't even fix my own so you'll be lucky if i am any help to you. But let me know how it goes anyway!

And to the last post - shaunna, the answer to your question is in the last 31 pages of this thread. You will find all the links and answers to most problems you may come across, nice reading!

Okay, I tried that and it came up differently to install..but icon still the same..so I reboot my computer and then plug it in and it finds the phone but then I tried to locate the drivers for my phone..didn't work again...Could it be because the drivers say for Windows98 and not Windows98SE?? Just thought of that...and if it is anyone know where I can get those?? Thanks for all the help Gem, I really appericate it.

No worries Queso. I'm not sure about the driver. Will try and find out, but some of the senior members will know better than me.
Besides that, now mine's all gone to pot. I don't know what's happened. It just won't initialize anymore, it just geems to get stuck. I think maybe it might be something to do with not being able to install the first version properly, when you CNTL+ALT+DEL it and stop it from uninstalling, i mean there is obviously some reason why it won't install - i'm beginning to think if you have SP2 running then it's useless cos it just isn't compatible, and by bypassing this problem you are not solving it only sweeping it under the carpet! So it is bound to come and bite you on the ass at some time or another and i think i was just bit, i'll have to check my bum for teethmarks!
If anyone knows any different then please post it because i am beginning to think there is no point trying to get it re-installed if it will do the same again.

I now have about three different programmes for managing your motorola by a USB cable, MPT, MobileEdit, and P2K Tools.
Can anyone advise me on which one is the best and which one i should stick to? This is really starting to wind me up cos i have just changed my computer from a PC to a laptop and they both run on exactly the same operating systems annd both had SP2 and it worked perfecctly on the PC, did everything i needed it too, save my photos and screensavers etc. to my PC, and i never had any problems with it at all. I have tried using the same files to install the programme on this laptop but the 2.21 file will not open and i can not use it so i have had to download it again.
I have a folder with the downloads i used for the PC and i have another folder with the most recent downloads. Which one is it best to use? Bearing in mind that i would have to use the recent 2.21 or equivalent.
What should i do? Please help if you can!!

    Hi
The drivers for Win98Se are in this link under Motorola Drivers. Download this file and unzip it and you will find a folder in there called 'Win98Se'. Your driver is in there.

I hope this helps you out and thank Mossy for the link.

I already got my phone tools 3.0 software disk monday. I installed it without any problems and transfered my pics from my phone to my computer. Now I just have to figure out how to download games and ringtones to my computer to put onto my phone. After all the trouble I think it was worth the 14.98 for the disk and ship.

Hey ltlsprite on MPT 3.0 you can just make a clip from an Mp3 a ringtone, do it through the multimedia center/studio, as long as you have the mp3 on your computer itll do it just dont make the file too big.

Firstly, got mine up and running again. I just uninstalled everything and re-installed it, the 1.23 file that i used did not come up with that error at the end. I don't know what is different about it but i have had it for a while so i am not quite sure where i got it from. Then once i got the 2.21 update installed, with out running the first version when you are installing - don't know if this helps but i would do this anyway, i just ran the live update and it had installed all the versions out at the moment, up to v3.25b. And everything is working as it should.

I think i got the version of 1.23 that i used from one of the early links from this thread, the ones that no longer work. I will check it out and try to find it elsewhere if not. Cos i think that is the reason why a lot people are having trouble installing and with the program running properly, that error means there is something wrong and surely the error is still there after you bypass the error by ending the install.

Anyway, i will try and find a link for my version and someone can let me know if it runs okay for them too.

    Secondly,

Queso, i don't know what to suggest then love, i don't run with Win98Se so i don't know much about it. Can't you direct the computer towards the folder that your driver is in? Have a look through some of the other relevant threads. By going to a list of the threads for motorola, I think you best bet is too look at this one. http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/175316

Make sure you keep a eye on the sticky tabs at the top of the page in bold writing. I found a tab with loads of drivers on it, and now mine is working fine, don't know if was owt i did differently or one of the new drivers made the difference. But it is certainly a good thing to check out. Apart from that, i really don't know.

And Shaunna, have you DLd a driver?
    If not you need to.
Have a look in your control panel, system, hardware, device manager, then modems to see if yours is listed. If not, it means that the phone is not connected. Also, turn the sound up on your computer, if you hear a noise when you plug the cable in, it means that the cable is working and communicating with the computer.

    Hi,

I've read practically every post, and a while back used some to get the mpt software working on my computer. I use it to transfer files to/from 2 different Cingular v220 phones via the usb cable.

    So far so good.

    Here's the problem scenario:
I am now trying to hook up another v220 and I'm getting the problem I have seen mentioned in several posts - mpt sits there with the word "initializing" and / circle symbol over the phone. My other 2 phones still work fine.

Is there a limit to the # of phones you can attach?
Also, this other phone's home area is out of state - could this matter?
One more thought: this phone was part of switching from ATT to Cingular. No one mentioned (that I saw) that ATT phones don't work with mpt, but if they don't, could this be an ATT phone that won't work? how can I tell?

    Tia for any help

Hello, I am new here and have been looking on this site for about a week. I have tried to download the mobile phone tools for a motorola v220 phone. I have tried everything listed on all of the pages. when I try to install the tools it starts to install and gets to a certain part and says " please insert disk 1 that contains the file layout bin". What do i do when it tells me this? also it tells me it cannot find any mobile phone tools on my computer. any help would greatly be appreciated. Thanks so much.
