REINSTALL YOUR SP2 for a start. SP2 has more advantages than MPT does. I use MPT v3.25 on a laptop running on WinXP with SP2. To try and help you, you will need to say which operating system you use.

Also, which version of MPT are you trying to install and where did you get the files you downloaded from?

I have a question if any one can help me. I am not experienced in all the technical talk but I have bought the phone tools 3.0 cd. I get my phone to work and I can transfer pics to computer. What I dont know how to do is to download games and tones to my computer and then put them onto my phone.I have downloaded p2kzip and I cant do any thing with it. If you can help me out I would be very grateful.

I must say that the Mobile phone Tools v.3 software is total CRAP

I have worked with computers for over 25 years, and this software is very near the type of crap that Packard Bell used to sell to people in there JUNK

It just blows my mind that after trying this software on 6 different computers we found one that it would work on(well half way)....But get this, you can forget about the ringtone thing, cannot send anything other then polyphonic to the phone(every other ringtone file says CORRUPT you want to DELETE?).... We can transfer pics and wallpaper, big DEAL...

This product is totaly BS and Motorola should be ASHAMED of themselves for creating this total GARBAGE...I know a programmer that could make some good software for these clowns that will actually work, but we know they don't want that

Called Motorola today about the product and guess what they are sending me a new cd, what a MORON, But then again he had never heard of anyone having problems installing or using there new CD(liar I think would suffice)....the problem is it will not update on live update on any other computer and without the newer updates it will not work...and I'm sure the new CD of the same version will correct al the errors on the only machine that it particially works on

To bad they haven't a clue or even care

EDIT: I have read this entire thread and tried all the advise, that's how we got it to work on one computer(after 2 uninstalls and reinstalls)....the deal should be when you buy software is a reasonable expectation of it working...this is far from reasonable

Well I have had nothing but good luck with MPT. I this the software is good. I can transfer Pics & Sounds and With Midway I can put games. I do know I have a homemade computer and a Hewelet Packard that it runs fine on and then I have an E-Machine that it runs horrible on.

Read this below, which i posted a few weeks ago (Quoted from another of my posts). You should also get the right links you will need for the correct files.
NOTE: Make sure you have a archive extracted i.e. WinRAR. (There are links on other posts to find a .zip prog.)

Are you sure you have all the right downloads and files? You will also need the P2k Drivers WinXP. You will find all the appropriate links in this thread.

This is the method I used to install my mPT for my V220, but as far as i know the files you need to install, are same for every make and model.

    1. Make sure all the previously installed versions of MPT are deleted. Ensure you do this from the Control Panel in the Start Menu. Then, Add/Remove Programs and scroll down to mobile Phone Tools and click on remove. Also make sure that you DON"T plug the phone in with the USB cable until you have installed the programme fully.

    2. Go to http://www.free.cz/motorola/ Click on mmpt_1.23c_EN.zip, the one from 9 July. Install by using an archive program to extract the files and then click on the Install/Setup icon in that folder. When it is almost installed, an error message may pop up saying something about 'getbooks'. DO NOT click OK, just CTRL+ALT+DEL and end the task. This will stop it from uninstalling.

    3. Go back to the same link and download mobilePhoneTools_2.2..> from 17 May. Extract it - it may not look as though it needs unzipping, and the icon will be an update icon, but unzip it anyway and use the set-up icon from within the file.

    4. There are other updates you can get. But first, get the first two versions installed properly, and then programme can use Live Update to search for updates for itself. I only installed up to v2.21 then used the Live Update option and it installed right up to v3.25, and all the ones in between. So let the software update itself.
Next, you need to download the P2K drivers.

    5. Go to http://bongowireless.com/file_download.php and click on the P2k_Driver_WinXP or the one for 95/2000, if appropriate. You have to unzip them but there isn't anything that you have to install.

    6. Restart your computer, when it is back up and running, plug the phone into the computer. It should automatically detect the new hardware and the drivers.

    7. Once it has done that, click on the icon for MobilePhone Tools, which should be a picture of a phone with blue rings behind it. A phone will appear on your screen and the icons on the right of it are your links.

    8. You will want to back-up your data from your mobile on your PC before you do any synchronising. The option to do this is in the main menu under organiser, Mobile Phone, Back-up/Restore. You can choose where to save your backed up phone data, if you choose.

    9. If you decide to update your version, you can do it through the Live Update option in the main menu.

Let us know how you get on, and get back to me with any probs. And feel free to PM me.
    Good Luck!

Update on this software MPT 3 on CD It is JUNK no question

Today we downloaded the first MPT 1.6 (I believe, its on this site) then upgraded 6 computers without any problems whatsoever, although NONE can transfer ringtones in MP3 format or any other for that matter

this is exactly how we upgraded it:

Download the first MPT install, and never hook up phone until done with everything

Download the 2.61 update and install

now update through 3.11, uncheck the newest Revision at the top then install and reboot let the upgrade finish

Now open and DO NOT HOOK UP PHONE, but do a live update to the newest revision

    It worked

Now open and when prompted hook up phone, when you do this you will see, new hardware found and it should start installing this will take a little time, it will also install Motorola USB MODEM and then say your hardware is ready for use, then it should find your phone and should change the skin to yours...

We have 2- v.262 and 2- v.265's and all hook up fine

Also It DID NOT MATTER if MS anti-spyware was still working, or firewalls, or Anti-viruses... WHAT MATTERED was the Crap that motorola sent us was Junk

Also we installed with some puters having all kinds of USB hooked up and others with Nothing else hooked up and they all reacted the same way, they all installed with no problems....these very same computers the day before with the MPT 3 cd from MOTOROLA would not finish the install or take the required final update...WHAT A JOKE....In the REAL world of software it should NEVER matter what other items are hooked up(BECAUSE this is JUST SOFTWARE)the only problems should be with clashing with other software or the OS and in this case because it includes a modem driver that must fit in as well(but the software should have installed without any problems)

Motorola needs to join the 21st century

5 of the computers we installed and checked for working all are XP PRO SP2 some with all the updates and others that need some updates...the problem is not with anyones computer it's with the subpar software
1 computer has ME on it and it work the same way on that one.

Just to bad that the Ringtones mp3 just does not transfer to phone without being corrupt...If there is a setting to change or any IDEAS on this problem please post...To bad Motorola hasn't a damn clue

I will continue to search this site, Which I might add is an EXTREMELY GOOD SITE for Cell Phones(this is as far as I have been so far)

Also try looking through some of the other threads for Motorola.
    A good one is:

'Drivers for WinXP, Winme, Win98Se*******Look Here*******'
    http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/175316

Some of the threads explaining the jargon also has links to Motorola Drivers.

I have one called Motorola USB Modem Driver, not sure if it helps it seems to be more reliable after DLing that file. I also downloaded all of the drivers i could find relating to Motorola and USBs from this link
    http://media.fastclick.net/w/get.media?sid=9388&m=5&url=http://www.free.cz/motorola/.

Like i said, i don't know if any of them are making the programme run any better but since i got it reinstalled and updated to v3.25 with the Live Update, it runs like a dream. Takes about 20 secs initializing then it's good to go and transfers everything i have tried yet. Must admit, i haven't tried to transfer a ringtone with it yet, but i could do it before i had to re-install with version 3.11.
Post back if you have any luck

If your phone doesnt have a signal it will not detect your phone and the clock keeps running. with signal it will show your battery and signal strength on the computer.

I would still like to know if any body can give me some good instructions on how to transfere games.

I had the same problem and my model wasnt detected. I had to go to the communications tab and change the model number. there is a post listed previously on here to help you. If i find it i will post it for you...

    ok try this Open MPT
    go to menu
    click set up
    click general setup
    then click on communication
make sure your usb is connected
make sure your model phone is highlighted.
then it should recognize your phone.
    Hope this helps.

Don't worry about plugging your phone in too early. As long as you have uninstalled the software, it should be fine and won't have any effect on your computer.

Some people do have problems installing on a computer with SP2, But then again i have it on mine and mine works perfectly.

Read my post on this page (15 June) and try to follow it as best you can. Make sure you use the same links and download sites.

If i were you i would delete everything you already have and download it all again - hope you have broadband!

Post back or PM me with any problems.
