hey, i've been looking around cluelessly to find a way to unlock my ringtones so that i can send them to my email acount and then use another phone and download them from there. in the threads and such, i found many software links like MPT and p2kman things, i'm not too sure what to do with them though..do i need to download them on my PC and then use bluetooth or something? And if so that would be a problem because my PC doesn't have bluetooth either. is there an alternate solution??
    Help please!

i don't get it. Isn't there anyone who knows why v710 won't transfer images and audio from my MPT 3.23? I fricken flashed my phone from superdavex and i downloaded pk2 but didn't use that yet for any seem uploads. For MPT the multimedia option works but when i try to transfer the sheat it doesn't. What the hell am i missing?

-do i have to reinstall this PST with Windows File Protection disabled?
-what version of MPT should be installed?
-What and how do I use the PK2 if it is required so that I may transfer images from my MPT?

If there is someone smart enough out there, Please don't hesitate to help, i'm not some computer illiterate. I am a computer tech. All I need to know is detailed instructions.

BTW, I also went to verizon to get it flashed but they flat out refused me and accused me of tampering with the phone.. how rude they are..

I bought the ringtone cd from Ebay and could not get anything to work for my V220. Got to this forum looking for answers, followed Gem20 posting from 15 june and no probs I am now loaded with ringtones and wallpapers.
Only wish I had read the posting 3 days ago, would have saved a ton of time.
Call me and you'll hear Enter Sandman screaming from my phone.
    Thanks Gem20 you rock !

I have XP with sevice pack1 installed and have been trying to follow Gem20's instructions for installing phone tools. I have downlaoded all the required files but I get an error when installing mmpt_1.23c_EN.zip.
It stops after 2/3 of the installation process and states that it can't find 'data/aboutn.ini'. It then does the usual Windows invitaion to browse for the file and I locate it as being with the rest of the setup files but it still refuses to see it. After googling for the problem, I came across this http://www.howardforums.com/archive/topic/351225-1.html
which suggested getting rid of a registry refernce in the custom.ini file. Unfortunately this is not there anyway and has left me stumped. Am I doing something wrong here? Do I cancel the process as I am supposed to do when the getbooks error comes up? In this case I think the aboutn.ini is the first of many files that the installation won't see. Has anyone come across and successfully resolved the problem?

I followed Chicksmoms advice and did what she and the other said about installing the software. I'm runing sp2 XP pro. and after I istalled all the software I couldn't get the phone to Inialize. I had to change the modem type to USB motorola modem. First I'd back up your registry though. I know that doesn't answer your problem with the that unknown file that you computer keeps looking for, but what I'd do is uninstall everything then search the registry for any occurances of Motorola and delete them. I'd go and update to sp2 and then re-download all the files that you need for you phone as that maybe you problem in the first place. Sorry I'm not much help but I never got a message error when I installed my software.

Okay... I bought the Motorola Phone Tools software and installed it on my computer and I am using a USB cable from a digital camera to hook up my phone. The computer seems to recognize the camera but when I try to transfer ringtones or pictures it won't work. For the ringtones it says "unsupported format- no conversion possible" and I know I have it in the right format and for the pictures it doesn't even say anything.. it just doesn't work. I am running Windows XP SP2.. if someone could help it would be great!
    Thanks!

Way back in November someone posted that they were getting this error message:

request denied by phone (requested entity too large (0x4D)

Well I was getting that message yesterday using Moble Phone Tools v 3.25 (I think) with a Motorola V220 and when I typed in that error message in Google, this thread was the first hit for it. Well in order to help anyone else that's getting this error (and maybe the guy who posted about it) I just wanted to write what I figured out. In my case, all it simply meant was that the phone was full. All I had to do was delete some ringtones and then I could add more. If only the message was a little clearer, such as "Phone is full" or "There is no more space on phone" I would have figured it out sooner.

    Hope this helps someone.

I followed them and it works great. i can move ringtones, pictures and address book back and forth without a hitch. I have not upgraded past 2.2.23 and i am not sure i will based on the problems mentioned elsewhere. Just wanted to say THANKS ALOT.

I can't find this software anywhere, and the links posted on this forum either lead to missing pages, or pages in languages I don't understand. If anyone has the software and is willing to send it to me, please say so and I'll PM my addy.

    Thanks a lot.

OK, I just downloaded this giant 120 meg file from limewire and it has hese three steps to getting it to work. It has the 1.23 file and the 2.21 file. However, I think the driver is incorrect. How do I delete the driver so that i can put the one provided with the limewire file i downloaded

my problem is that the mobile tools don't recognize my phone.

    MINIKINK & NICK

Please read my thread from 15 June. It has all the links, DL sites and then instructions on what to do and how to install the software.
It should work for all models. But stick to the instructions as best you can.

I wish people would read the threads instead of just posting a question that has been asked a thousand times already, and answered, i might add!

READ THE THREAD, any question (well, almost) you could ever want to ask about MPT, is answered!!

Well first I must appoligize for all of us. Sorry!!! I'm a nub as far as the phone things go and I know that if I had a couple of days to read through all the threads to find the one that pretained to my particular phone I'd eventually find you thread explaining to us how to use the darn thing. I must all so appoligize for my spelling as it is hairoshish along with my knowing what all these acronyms mean. I don't know the ling-go but I'm starting to understand some of it. Please be patient with us we know not what we do.

:) Now I wonder, how I do find your threads about what I'm trying to find...*shrugs*

OK I used the search to find Gem20's threads. U did say the 15th right!!!. Well I can't find anything written on the 15th. there are a couple on the 17th may be that's what your were referring to?

    :)

Right, these are the same instructions as before. The one i was referring to is on page 32, of THIS thread - sorry, it's my fault, should have said post, not thread! oops!. Date 15 June @ 09.39. Above the posting it tells you the date and time of when it was entered.
Anyway, these are the same, only from a different post.

This is the method I used to install my mPT for my V220, but as far as i know the files you need to install, are same for every make and model.

    1. Make sure all the previously installed versions of MPT are deleted. Ensure you do this from the Control Panel in the Start Menu. Then, Add/Remove Programs and scroll down to mobile Phone Tools and click on remove. Also make sure that you DON"T plug the phone in with the USB cable until you have installed the programme fully.

    2. Go to http://www.free.cz/motorola/ Click on mmpt_1.23c_EN.zip, the one from 9 July. Install by using an archive program to extract the files and then click on the Install/Setup icon in that folder. When it is almost installed, an error message may pop up saying something about 'getbooks'. DO NOT click OK, just CTRL+ALT+DEL and end the task. This will stop it from uninstalling. Sometimes, you may also get errors when it is instlling about not being able to fid certain files. If you have the option, click IGNORE. It happened to me but hasn't seemed to have had any effect on the way the program runs.

    3. Go back to the same link and download mobilePhoneTools_2.2..> from 17 May. Extract and click on the update icon you have just unzipped.

    4. There are other updates you can get. But first, get it installed properly, and the programme can search for updates for itself. Next, you need to download the P2K drivers.
Go to http://bongowireless.com/file_download.php and click on the P2k_Driver_WinXP or the one for 95-2000, if appropriate. You have to unzip them but there isn't anything that you have to install.
MAKE SURE YOU DOWNLOAD THE RIGHT P2K DRIVER FOR YOUR OPERATING SYSTEM OR ELSE YOUR PHONE AND COMPUTER WILL NOT BE ABLE TO CONNECT.

I also downloaded some other drivers from this link http://www.free.cz/motorola/
    Motorola_USB_Modem_D..> 29-Jun-2004 18:22
    P2K_driver_2.3.zip 29-Jun-2004 18:19
    p2kman.zip 29-Jun-2004 18:13
    p2kman2.zip 30-Jan-2004 15:19

It is your choice whether to download these or not, cos i have to admit that i don't know if they make any difference at all. But mine certainly seems to run more smoothly since i downloaded these.
If you do, make sure you unzip it and extract the files but there shouldn't be anything to install except i seem to remember having to install something from the Motorola USB Modem Driver file, but i'm not that sure. If you do come across a set up application icon then make sure you do it.

    5. Restart your computer, when it is back up and running, plug the phone into the computer. It should automatically detect the new hardware and the drivers.

    6. Once it has done that, click on the icon for MobilePhone Tools, which should be a picture of a phone with blue rings behind it. A phone will appear on your screen and the icons on the right of it are your links.

    7. You will want to back-up your data from your mobile on your PC before you do any synchronising. The option to do this is in the main menu under organiser, Mobile Phone, Back-up/Restore. You can choose where to save your backed up phone data, if you choose.

    8. If you decide to update your version, you can do it through the Live Update option in the main menu.

It will download all of the versins of MPT from the web and install them on your phone, you do get the chose of which ones you want to install, but i would highly recommend that you DL all the versions available. It should update the software to v3.25. Which mine updated to last week, so i thibk that is the latest version out at the moment, but the earlier ones are just as good.
The only thing is, if you download version 2.21 or 3.11 or whatever without installing the first version - v1.23- aswell, you wil not be able to transfer pictures and ringtones, etc.

Let us know how you get on.
    Good Luck!
