Emboldened by my success on the laptop, I decided to try again on desktop.

I downloaded MPT 3.11h from the link provided by Gem20, and installed. I encountered an error during install, but was able to 'ignore' through it.

Lo and behold, it worked fine. It installed the drivers and foiund my V220 without a problem. The only thing missing seems to be a 'LiveUpdate' feature in 3.11h.

So, again, I say 'thanks' to all.

    Gem20,

If you could help me, it would be greatly appreciated.

I've followed through the guide, used the versions you supplied. I'm able to get the normal motorola media downloader to work. But I have been unsuccessful in getting phone tools to recognize my phone.

I even tried downloading the live update, but get an unpacking error. And looking in my device manager, it shows a Motorola iDEN USB Modem installed. I've tried pointing it to the drivers you have there, but it says no information is supplied for my device.

    I'm running Windows XP SP2.
    The phone is the i850.

Just do a Live Update. It will update you to the latest version available. But it may not necessarily be 3.23, it might go further.

Not sure if you're model is actually compatible with MPT, will try to find out for you.
I take it you are going to start from the beginning and update to the latest versions? That is by far the best way. It is time-consuming but if you install one of the later versions it can cause problems later on (Not that install from the first version won't bring you any problems! That's practically garentee'd, i don't think anyone has an EASY install!
Anyway, You will be starting with mpt>..v1.23 and you can work up from there.

Just had a look on the BVRP Software website and as far as they are concerned, your phone model isn't compatible with mobile PhoneTools.

[bold]Here is the link to the site to check if your model is MPT compatible:[/bold]

    http://www.bvrp.com/eng/products/mobilephonetools/order_process1.asp

Sorry, mate! Think you might be better off staying with the software, you already have up and running.

    Bah, thanks.

Yeah, I emailed them last week and never did recieve a response. Nice customer service there.

But I was trying to find something that would allow me to control my contacts, address book, etc on it. Guess I will keep searching.

Someone mentioned something about RSS Super Agent or such.

still not working! (v220 w/ mobiletools)

i've come accross gem20's great instructions and links and followed them after uninstalling all previous attempts at connecting my v220 w/ mobiletools or mobledit.

i upgrade up to 3.2, connect the phone only when prompted, but still to recognition. my device manager recognizes the motorola usb modem.

    hmm?

Hi, I followed the instructions from this site to get the drivers and phone tools programs workng and they all installed and work fine. I ran live update to upgrade the software and that worked fine too. My problem is when I click on create an internet connection to use my phone as a modem and to connect me to the internet. It always gives me an error when its trying to connect. What could be the cause of this?

The error always says something like the
PPP link control protocol has been terminated.

No idea what this means. And this time it says "If you use a proxy server you may need to uncheck the server settings to access this connection. The GPRS Network connection could not be established, make sure the GPRS connection is accessible, and that you have subscribed to this option."

Does anyone know what the GPRS connection is?? I also tried connecting the other way which was called GPRS data i think and this didnt work either.

I think my error about the proxy settings and PPP means that my computers server settings need to be changed. I think now it is only set for IP and I think it needs to be set for dial-up, but I really need to know how to do this. I found the IPPconfig.exe on my laptop, which is that black screen where you type something in for settings, but I don't know what or if im even on the right track.

When the error comes up, and says that the setup will now terminate, DO NOT PRESS 'OK'.
All you need to do is press CNTL+ALT+DEL.
This will prevent the software from unintsalling itself.

Then make sure the programme does not start so that you can install the 2.21 upgrade properly.

    rennings
THE P2K DRIVERS DO NOT NEED TO BE INSTALLED.
There is nothing to install, but they DO need to be UNZIPPED.
Save the folder the files are unzipped to in a place you find it easily, because when you configure your device with the software, it asks for the destination of the drivers and you may have to browse to find them.
You can move the folder after you have used it.

    Atmos,
I think what it is basically telling you is that 'the GPRS Network Connection' (the internet on your mobile phone) 'could not be established' (your phone won't connect to the internet), 'make sure it is accessible' (fix it!!) 'and that you are subscribed to this option' (your network provider provides this option on your price plan).
Is there a reason you want to use your phone as a modem for your PC? Cos otherwise i wouldn't bother with all the hassle!
And I don't think IPPconfig.exe is any use. The black screen you are describing is called the 'Command Prompt'.

    Hope this helps.

hey, thanks! ..but the thing is, i have already "sort of" installed it, or something.. im still confused about this.. when i first plugged in my phone, at first it say at the end "ur new hardware was installed but might not work properly" n thats because of the test command stuff, i just skipped over that.. and phonetools still works, but now that i want to use midway, i have to use p2kman to get the java app loader, but when i try to connect through p2k it disconnects the phone {with AT it connects}... i tried uninstalling/removing the motorola phone throguh device manager, n then reinstall it, but the whole test command stuff never popped up again.. i dont know if that has anything to do with anything.. anyhow, with the p2k driver, unzip what? i have the p2k system file/driver that i got from websites posted on this thread.. and i unzipped that one file.. is that what u mean by unzip the p2k driver?

Thanks a lot Gem, but I figured it out. You were right about the ippconfigg.exe I just had to have the address and password entered in CAPS, that was the problem. I think i have Gprs with my service.
