Ryan, Handford has a straight through rs232 cable which wont work im afraid. He needs a null modem cable as this has a different pin out, both have a 9 pin female to female gender, hence the mix up most people are having when purchasing these upload cables.

So many people come on this forum getting the message flash failed. It's not wonder after people keep telling them to get a 9 pin female to female rs232 cable. They go into Maplins see that cable waste their money then get told to go back into Maplins and get a NULL MODEM cable
Serial: RS232 9pin female to female DOES NOT WORK
Serial: NULL MODEM 9pin female to female DOES WORK

If you look on the back of your box it will explain that their are two different types of serial cable. One is RS232 one is NULL MODEM. How it says both on your box I don't know

If you go to Maplins people just ask for order code L71BT. Just last week I was in Maplins looking at both box's to make sure I was not giving peole the wrong advise and the box that saysw RS232 contains the cable that does not work. The bos that says Serial Lead [NULL MODEM] order code L71BT conatains the cable that does work. So why when we know people see RS232 and buy the wrong cable are members still telling them to get it

Well I am amazed what is the part number on the box. I know if you go to Maplins site on the net and search for L71BT it will return the right cable. I've still got the box and it does not say what yours does because what yours does.

    On the back it says
Serial connections are slower connections generally used by older equipment. There are two common version available.RS232 is a standard used to coonect to connect computers to other devices such as modems. NULL MODEM is a standard used to connect two computers together to create a basic network.
    ----
Like I said before people buy the RS232 it does not work they go back to Maplins buy the NULL and it works. That is the bottom line
