I searched for a NULL MODEM on Maplins site got the part number went into the shop asked for L71BT went home flashed my box and it worked. Reading on this forum I found out that people were getting the wrong cable and they were advised to go and get the right one. I've gien the same advice since as passing on what we lern is what we do here.

I think the problem is when you buy from a supplier other than Maplins they call it an RS232 NULL MODEM cable. Maplins don't and thats the confusion.

Well you learn something everyday, I got my NULL MODEM cable from a supplier, didn't even come in box. No part number, just in plastic sealed bag, all it says on the cable is ( low voltage computer cable ) fortunately it does work a treat.

thanks for the information with regard to the nul moderm cable, i will get correct part number cable (exchange), sounds like some of the problems people are having with non-flashing maybe down to incorrect cable ?

If you got yours with your SV why would anyone feel the need to say exactly waht it is. You Couldn't order a "low voltage compuiter cable" and expect to get the right part though.

A null modem cable is by definition, an RS232 cable that has pins 2 and 3 reversed so that the two connected computers are under the impression they are linked using modems. It is a device that connects two DTE devices directly by emulating the Physical connections of a DCE unit.

Sorry crashd, been away for awhile - what I meant was I got the lead from a supplier on the web, not with sv box, already had box, they were advertised as RS232 cable. I was just saying what info I found on lead, wasn't being critical or anything, sorry if I sounded wrong. Now I know that it is part L71BT I can pass it on to others. Cheers
