    Your laptop may not have a DB9 interface as most new ones dont. You will need to buy an DB9 RS 323 usb adaptor for the null modem cable.

    the connection at the back of laptop has 15 holes and the connection on the cable have 9

    The 15 pin is for connection to an external screen. You will have to get the usb adaptor

    I am not sure if I have a dud box. I have an old dreambox which my mate has lent me for a couple of days and that works fine on connection - picks up signal and all. But as soon as I connect the staview no signal. Should I be doing something else? Thanks

    Do not mix a USB to Serial Cable when its USB to Serial Port Cable that is required.Some people get this wrong when asking. You can also get these tn Maplins. You then have the required Port to connect the Null Modem Cable to.

    Fergus is from Kildare and he is charging a minimal fee plus P&P. He is away unti August I think though.

    Sorry Ryan it has to be male as the null modem cable plugs into this and then the cable plugs into the Sv and the usb plugs into the laptop port.
