Answer to this is yes. You will need both an adapter and a null modem cable.

Do not mix a USB to Serial Adapter Cable when its USB to Serial Port Adapter Cable that is required.Some people get this wrong when asking. You can also get both the null modem cable and adapter items in Maplins. You then have the required Port to connect the Null Modem Cable to.

I'm not a clone and i'm learning how do i get version 4 for my starview and i assume i have to connect starview to my laptop via usb and r something port on back of sv whoch i will have to buy in shop. any comments welcomed

you need to buy a null modem cable if there is no port for it on your laptop you need to buy a usb cable if you look at sc0users post above and go to the maplins links you will see what you need.

try this go to nagravision and change the first two keys to 00 on both lines 00 and 01.
then go to sky comedy then change to blomberg.
press last so you flick between the two channels.
now stop on blomberg and leave it it should autoroll.

please let me know if it works

Hi I know I have a clone it did not have any software cd with it, if I need to update how can I go about it. I used a rs232 to connect to my pc but it seemed unable to recognise that a device was connected.

PS is it ok that my VLC tried to play the second download

 

don't know what vlc is but you should have gtrom loader and v4.00.gtrom loader is an application and v4.00 is a .bin so you don't open it just leave it the way it is.
