    Lads,

Friend of mine bought 10 starview boxes on ebay, having been told they were flashed and ready to go from the box.

However when he turns them on there is no channels and if he tries to enter a key manually using secret menu's (1570 / 2004) to get into nagravision nothing happens.

Does this mean that there is no firmware installed on the boxes and if so what can he do to remedy the problem.

The bloke who sold them to him has gone missing and isnt answering calls or mails (typical).

From reading a bit he went out and bought and RS232 cable and tried connecting one of the boxes to his laptop (9-pin) and PC (15-pin) using both the serial method and usb method (usb to 9/15-pin) in the hope of acquiring the necessary software, however he doesnt appear to be able to establish a connection bewteen the starview and his laptop/PC.

    Can anyone help out there?

All help greatly appreciated, using the simpliest terminology possible as i am a complete novice to the whole world of cable receivers, firmware and cables etc.

    Thanks in advance.
    ReplayL.....

These boxes will have version 2.58 on, this version, from Nov 2006 has NO EMU menu on it so these can be sold as free to air only. They will need re-flashing with 2.57 or something similar. They may be clones if the seller won't answer so do not flash with files 2.60 and above.

to test a remote, use a mobile phonewith video capture, point it at the front of the rmote and press a button, if the transmitter light up then te remote is ok and it must be the ir reciever on the starview thatsat fault.

if the remte isnt working make sure theres no gaps between the batteries and the contacts.

on the front of the remote there is a little bulb, like a light bulb or a LED. thats where the infrared signal is transitted, point it towards a lens on a camera phone and on the phone you should see light coming out of the transmitter, if you dont then the remotes faulty, if it works then the starview is faulty
