Hi, I really have three basic questions: 1. How to copy protected VHS movies (not home movies) to DVD (this is my most pressing question), 2. How to copy DVD movies to blank DVD (I don't have a DVD Burner, just a CD Burner; is it possible to burn it on computer and have it play in a DVD player?), and, 3. Once I have made a copy of a DVD movie, is the copy I've made copy-protected too? I'd like to know the easiest & most inexpensive way of doing these. I have a pretty good library of VHS movies that I want to condense to DVD. That's the most important thing to me right now. Any help would be graciously accepted!
peaches hi there . i had the same first question this is what i came up with. link1 http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/429305 link 2 http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/420775 ques#2 you need a dvd burner then you can burn to play in a stand alone player ques#3 no it is not. hope it helps
I just had one more question ~ is it possible to copy a protected DVD onto your computer (i.e., does the Macrovision not allow you to copy them via computer either)? And if it IS possible to make a copy via computer, can you edit it and then burn the edited version back to DVD?
peach yes to your last 2 question. there are free ripper that will place movies to your hd.then you can reauthor with shrink which is free.and burn with imgburn which is also free. there are good pay progams out there but i have been using the freeware without any problems.thats for dvd burning. now vhs to dvd i have not did yet still reseaching it. but once you get it to your hd you can use the same freeware. hope that helps. if your looking to buy a burner use seach there is always threads on that.
Peach1468 there are programs that you can copy dvd's to cd", you would have to use like 2-3 cd's for 1 dvd, also you would need a program to bypas the copy protection, and you do not need a video capture card to edit DVDs just a program to do that, you would need to get a video capture card if you wanted to transfer raw video from a camcorder, and there are things i think it is called dazzel, that will let you plug in your vcr in to to go to your computer, to make backup's of your vhs tapes, but with the way that the dvd's movies are droping you could just go out and buy the dvd cheeper thain wasting your time converting the vhs to cd or dvd, depending on the dvd's, you can buy older dvd's brand new for like $3.99 or less, so it is up to you, good luck
Thanks, RD. The VHS tapes I want on DVD are my childrens' Disney movies (and they have gobs of them). I'm a big eBayer and have checked it for Disney movies. Used on eBay they're easily $10 a piece -- and Walmart is even more. If you know where I can get them at $3.99 as you say, please enlighten me! =) Does Dazzle bypass Macrovision?
born2ride: You said, "There are free ripper that will place movies to your hd." One, what program do you recommend, and two, do they bypass Macrovision? "then you can reauthor with shrink which is free.and burn with imgburn which is also free." What does it mean to reauthor, and why do I need to do that? Is the name of the program shrink or is it short for something? I'm probably just going to get a DVD burner for my new Dell so I won't need the imgburn since I think the DVD burner comes with a burning software called Nero. The burners are pretty cheap on eBay, even brand new.
peach the free ripper i use link is. yes it does all protection. http://www.dvdidle.com/free.htm reauthor i believe lets you change the dvd before final burn. remove unwanted materials ect.exm different languages, special feature.yes dvd shrink is full name.link here http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_rippers/dvd_shrink.cfm. i use nero to burn. if yours comes with recode and other feature there migth be so guide around here for it.
peach1468 you posted this (If you know where I can get them at $3.99 as you say, please enlighten me!) you never said what movies that you wanted to backup! and now you say Disney movies, i was talking in general older movies that are on dvd! if i want to get some older dvd movies i go to deep discount dvd to get my movies, but i also manage a video store so i have many places to get movies vhs and dvd blu-ray and hd movies, and as far as if (Does Dazzle bypass Macrovision), i don't think it does, you will need a program like anydvd to help you get past that, also i myself would not wast the time transfering the vhs to dvd, that would be like puting casette to cd, and with the way that the disney is doing the remastering of the movies, it would be better to just buy the dvd, better quailty, that is me, good luck happy burning have a nice day
So far so good! I've got it copied (after almost pulling out my hair to get the DVD to play in the first place; spent hours trying to figure out why WM11 wouldn't play it and bought Sonic DVD Decoder & still didn't work until I happened upon a site with Windows XP codecs. Once installed, not only did WM11 play it, but Sonic started working too! Go figure . . .). Okay, next question -- I'd like to be able to edit the video. The DVD is in IFO BUP and VOB format (I think primarily VOB). Is there a free program out there to allow me to hide scenes, etc to cut it down? I've tried opening it in Movie Maker, and found it doesn't support any of the above formats. Thanks!!!
