@Mort81 You are right, now you know why I junked my Dell drives, lack of support. I found that the firmware from Dell usually does not match up with other firmware, if it were me I would flash that Samsung with the firmware from rpc, if it did not work out I would go and buy another they are cheap enough, but that is me. If the poster is worried about warranty he will have to go with Dell's.
I am considering trying the upgrade from the firmware page. But, it says to <<Read carefully the installation notes of your firmware before you upgrade.>> I see no installation notes. Could someone help me with the specific installation instructions I need to know to do this properly? Thanks.
The installation notes are something that should be at the beginning of the file before you start it. Just make sure you do not have a disk in the drive, do not have a power failure, and since this is not an external drive you do not have to worry about disconnecting any other USB drives. All you do is download the file, I usually use WinZip to open it and click on the exe file. It will start flashing your drive, when done turn off your computer and then restart.
I just bought Nero6. Is there any reason to use that to burn instead of or in addition to how I have it currently setup (DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter)?
Other than the fact that you purchased it, no, however Imgburn and DVD Decrypter should be superior when burning to Double Layer discs. You will find Recode to be a little faster at transcoding than DVD Shrink, and the quality may be a little better.
Thanks, if you are good with Nero, I have a few questions and am hoping that you can put me in the right direction. My disc I bought on Amazon, and it didn't come with an instruction manual. I am going to start learning how to use this, but I have something I need to do before I have the time to spend learning all the details of this software: I need to take a short excerpt from a DVD and convert it to a file that Microsoft Powerpoint can input and use. If you could tell me how to do that, I'd appreciate it. Things I want to do that I have more time to spend with are making home movies and burning them to DVD and making backup copies of CDs. Thanks again.
