download something called Cucusoft iPod Movie/Video Converter (type it in on google). This thing will do the trick, even converts mpeg although the trial of this software will display a black bar along the screen on the ipod when viewing the movie however... you have two options mate to get the black bar off! you could either

1.play it safe and buy the product for about £30.00

I just found a company called Makayama that makes a program called "iPod Media Studio" you can find it at the following website: http://www.makayama.com/dvdtoipod.html. It is pretty simple to use, and has the option to synch the audio and video. It costs $32.95.

The only issue I had when trying the demo version had nothing to do with the program itself, but when I had my wife's 60gb Video iPod connected to iTunes. At the bottom of the iTunes window, you will see a single black iPod icon. I had to click on that icon, then select the "video" tab from the pop up screen. My wife's iTunes had a "Do Not Update Video" selected. I had to choose one of the ohter options (I chose "automatic") and it synched the demo movie to her iPod. It is a little choppy but not bad, and the audio is syched with the video.

Hope this helps. If anyone knows of a simpler, cheaper, better, or better quality program, please let me know.

HandBrake works for DVDs. If you are trying to convert .avi BitTorrents to Mac, I recommend iSquint (Google it). Quicktime Pro is a $30 solution for converting quicktime files to iPod-friendly size, but it seems to take a really long time on my computer.
