i am a little confused here. whan you say 'standard discs' do you mean dvd's you got from the shop? if so, you probably cannot play the customised dvd's/cd's on your dvd player. how old is it?

If you could shrink the mpeg files anymore you really wouldn't want to.

If you lowered the resolution and bitrate anymore than they already have then it would be un-watchable!!

You say your dvds don't work, did you just copy the mpegs over or did you author them?

If authored dvds don't work then it'll have to be VCD or SVCD, which will be one disc each.

have you tried any other backed up DVDs in your player?

It could be that your player doesn't like that media.
