mpeg1 and mpeg2???

    what is the diff. between mpeg1 and mpeg2? do these have any thing to do with compressing movies to smaler filles if so which one compresses it to the smaller file?

    Their compression method is totally different and their original purposes are totally different.

    MPEG-2 Video is used as a native format in TV studios(== news programs, etc are shot _directly_ into MPEG-2 format), in digital TV (the broadcast is in MPEG-2 with DTV), in DVDs, etc..

    Meanwhile MPEG-1 Video is used in VideoCDs and in various lower bandwidth purposes. Most popular part of MPEG-1 is propably something what most people know as "MP3" -- MPEG-1 Audio Layer III, which is one part of MPEG-1's audio specs.

    thanx alot drD for anwsering my question. so this means that mpeg2 is what i need to use for dvd's right do you know anywhere i could download one?
