Just to return to the original topic, I had a cat, Leroy, who disappeared after we got a slightly feral kitten. Leroy was really laid back & the kitten, Emerson, wanted to play fight all the time. I guess Leroy got fed up. I had him 7 yrs & when he disappeared I was devastated. He was my little buddy. He would come into the house when I called him & look at me as if to say "what do you want?". I missed the little guy, well he was huge & just fitted through the cat flap.
He was a beautiful Tiger Tabby. He had no white bits, just pure khaki & stripes, he had a very gentle & affectionate nature. He grew closer to me after his sister was killed by a neighbours dog.
My home was not a home without Leroy, he was a great cat & I loved him enormously.

I woke up one morning, I saw the shadow of a cat at the windowsill, I thought it was Emerson, but this cat was way bigger than Emerson. I was still half awake when the cat meowed. I had to take a double take, I said "Leroy, is that you?".
Sounds daft I know, but I had always talked to him & treated him as my best pal.
Needless to say it WAS Leroy! I lept out of bed & picked him up & give him a massive hug. Boy did he purr!
How long was he away?, I can hear you ask! Well, it was 6 months.
    I was amazed.
He was in good condition. He had been looked after, a bit scruffy, but OK.
To end the story he hung around, but as we still had the other cat, he disappeared for good a couple of weeks later.
I was gutted, but I figured that he would be OK.
I much prefer cats to dogs, canines are far too sycophantic for me. Dogs have owners, Cats have staff.

    Still missing Leroy, 14yrs later!

I agree you own dogs, cats own you. Independent critters are cats.

wow Pulsar, that's amazing that your cat was gone for 6 months and came back. I had a cat disappear once. He was sick and throwing up all over the house, so my mother put him outside. He had been outside a few times before, but he was always supervised so he didn't get too close to the highway. Anyway, we never saw him again. I was kind of upset but it really devistated my younger sister. So we ended up getting 3 cats to take his place. One of those cats disappeared for a week or so once, but came back. Another got stuck in between the walls of our house, don't know how that happened but it was tough to get her out. How's that saying go, curiosity killed the cat?

Great family pic, and you definitely look like a proud father. May I say as the father of two daughters I know that feeling well.

    @ pulsar

Nice storey, cats are so independent, and dogs are so dependent.
Heart goes out to man, even after 14yrs, I bet the love is still there for him.
My cat just won't take to these new kittens, actually quite comical to watch them all......................
Thing about pets, you never really know exactly how much they mean to you until they are not there.
Little mannerisms they have, clawing the furniture, scratching at the door, sleeping on your lap etc etc, all little things but are missed greatly when they don't occur anymore.

    @bbmayo

Welcome back, nice to see you return, hope you enjoyed your break, and back ready for action.
Great pic, nice family, pity about the bloke pushing in at the back, looks like one of those tourist guy's.......LOL
    Arg, just kidding.
Nice to see, bet graduation was a good evening, and I bet you're all proud........

If you want to see how I feel about my kids/dogs, go to this site I made for Mickey, one of my Westie's that I lost just over a year ago. There is also a pic of me, (with my teeth and without the weight,) holding both Buddy and Mickey during Halloween a couple of years back.

    http://www.westieheaven.com/

I still have Buddy who is 15 1/2 and two more, Nikki, 7 and Willie, 6 who we rescued a month after Mickey passed. Both Nikki and Willie needed to be kept together so that's what we did.

Dog's are mans best friend. They can only show you unconditional love no matter what your financial status, looks, bad hair day, etc., and want to be with you 24/7. If you become ill, they won't leave you and when you get old, they don't need an excuse to give you for not coming by. When you're so old that it's time for a nursing home, they won't fight over which one HAS to take you in to stay with you... Get the picture... they are heart and soul, the best friend one could ever ask for!

    Scuba, that is so sweet.
That just brought tears to my eyes.
I know Mickey will be looking down on you with heartfelt joy and happiness.
That has to be one of the best memorials I have ever seen, especially for a pet.
It is obvious how much he meant to you and judging by the pictures, he is still very much in your heart.

    God bless.................

Wow - that is definitely a tear jerker. Those poems are beautiful.
I can definitely feel for you - I'm getting very close to the same situation you were in with Mickey. My little boy - Binkie - is on his last legs. What a great dog he's been for the last 15 years. When the time comes I will stay with him to the end. I know it will tear me up.
You are so right about the unconditional love and dogs being the best friends!
Now I must go and wipe my tears.
