Hi, I've just purchased a Toshiba 5205-S503 laptop in the US and am not sure what kind of internal DVD/CD/CD-RW combo drive it is that I have. I'm worried that when I return to the UK (where I usually live) that I won't be able to watch UK DVDs there. Is there any way I can make my DVD drive multi-region. I've tried reading other threads but am not computer literate enough to know whether these other instructions are other-manufacturer-only instructions. Thanks and sorry if this is a repeat of other threads. Brian.
You can findout what your drive unit is by going to control-panel -> system -> device-manager and slicking on DVD/CD drive. Then check for the patch on this link: http://perso.club-internet.fr/farzeno/firmware/
Hi, Thanks for your reply. I did as you suggested and found the CD/CD-R/DVD combo drive is a TEAC DW-224E drive. I went to your link and was unable to find any TEAC drives. Am I being stupid and looking in the wrong place? I'm not really sure where I should go from here. Any help greatly appreciated, Cheers, Brian.
The drive must be recent, or perhaps it isn't very common. Keep your eyes on this link too: http://forum.firmware-flash.com/ Otherwise, you may want to try this sw. Apparently many have had successful results: http://www.dvdidle.com/dvd-region-free.htm jnihil.
