I recently bought a spindle of Ridisc Xtreme Dual Layer dvds and my laptop dvd+-RW drive wont accept it.

I have a Sony A317M Laptop with DW-D56A drive with the latest firmware - PFS3.

My drive accepts Verbatims and other dual layer discs but not these ones. I burn an image with Imgburn and i get an error message like this:

    Action: Set layer 0 capacity
    Sense Error: 5 / 27 / 00
    WRITE PROTECTED
    CDB: SEND DVD STRUCTURE
    0xBF 00 00 00 00 00 00 20 00 0C 00 00

I have also tried dvddecrypter, Nero and other dvd burning programs with no luck at all. Does this mean that my dvd drive is not compatible with these Ridisc Xtreme discs?? I dont really want to keep buying verbatims as they are quite expensive.

    Any ideas??

Firmware updates is what usually makes a drive recognize more brands of media. Since you have the latest firmware, I don't know what else to tell you.

I know that Verbatim is the best DL media. Maybe you can catch it on sale, and get it at a reasonable price. Check these sites:

    Good luck!

    BTW........
I doubt this will help, but it won't hurt to try it. You never know.....
Go into your Device Manager, and find your drive. Right click on it, and choose "Uninstall". After it uninstalls, reboot, and let Windows detect new hardware, and install new a driver for you.
