Please forgive as it my first post so i hope it is in the right area....

    geeze, i'm going nuts.

all of a sudden my hp 420n (d/l firmware 1.27 from HP) 8x dvd + burner will only burn at 2.4x.(tried in nero/roxio) also, weirdly - some discs it does burn WILL NOT be read by the hp burner, but it WILL be read by my other dvd player in my PC (XP os)..and it will read in my dvd player standalone.

    HELP.

    I've tried:

-uninstall and reinstall the driver/dvd burner
-uninstall reinstall Nero burning s/w (latest vers)
-upgraded to latest firmware by hp
-uninstalled the ASPI (forced vers. 4.6) and reinstalled
    (ASPI32.SYS 4.71.2....WOWPOST.EXE 4.6 (1021)....WINASPI.DLL 4.6 (1021).....WNASPI32.DLL (from nero) 2.0.1 (45)...
-borrowed my roomie's 8x HP burner!!! and SAME PROBLEM...only burn at 2.4x
-tried different brands of dvd discs...maxwell, fuji, tdk
--did a virus check and all fine.
---looked in system settings (IDE ATA ATAPI cntrolrs) and see that DMA (2ndry IDE channel) is both enabled as "Ultra 2" (HP 420n is slave; Sony DVD is master)

No joy anywhere...can someone help before i toss it out the window!

    thanks
    chris

    bongo2004,

    First ... [bold]No e-mail addresses[/bold]

Now have you tried re-installing Nero? Also is there a reason why you need both Nero and Roxio? Nero and Roxio at times don't get along. You should also make your burner your master and your dvd-rom your slave.

What media are you using? And what is the max write speed of those discs?

I would uninstall both Roxio and Nero. Choose one and re-install. I recommend going with Nero.
