My Nero 6 OEM not compatable with Windows 8.1

My Nero 6 OEM will not run on my new Win 8.1 system. Wat is a good partner to run with my DVD Shrink 3.2 for backing up my video collection?

Should I break down and buy the newest Nero; is there another good combo (Roxio)?

 

Not sure about Windows 8, but try these that work in Win 7.

Install ImgBurn - (uncheck any option to install toolbar if offered, but note that this particular version should be free of adware).

Run the portable 'DVD Shrink with ImgBurn' version and load DVD project:
Edit > Preferences > File I/O, uncheck 'Enable burning with Nero'.
Then, when ready,'Backup', select 'ISO Image File and burn with ImgBurn'.

Old software can be better than the latest and greatest BUT Nero 6 seems to date from 2007 or before. I quite imagine there would be problems in trying to install it under W8. W7 might well give problems too. You would have to try installing it using Admin mode, (right click on the installer file and under the drop down menu choose 'Run as administrator'. The next thing to try is altering the launch shortcut to do the same. Following along with running it in compatibiility mode for WinXP and trying the differing Service Pack options. Many potential trouble spots.

IDK about buying a new version when there are other good alternatives both paid and freeware. If you must pay, Ashampoo offers regular deals on their decent if somewhat expensive regular priced offering as well as the usual freeware andf somewhat cut down version usually under the name Ashampoo Burning studio FREE and a current URL for the latest one from June 2 is here:

I have personally used these in the past and they offer decent performance and features. You can't argue about the price. My experience with this stuff goes back around 15 years and in the past several the occasional sketchy ad things have been reduced and are generally ignorable.

An alternative for the bare bones crowd and especially for those who create and back up .ISO images is IMGburn, completely free software. No ads, no muss, no fuss. A bit too bare bones for some but it will get the job done.

I currently have both installed and use both for different purposes. the Ashampoo is mostly used for simple data jobs and music CD burning. ImgBurn is used for copying and backing up disks and for burning .ISO images.
