Hi Guys,

Ive been doing this since November last year with no issues at all, until yesterday. Bought a batch of R4 cards from my usual guy, except these are all slightly different. On the reverse side, where the gold contact pins are, it now says R4-SDHC 1

Ive been at this since 9pm last night, ive downloaded every different version of software that I can see, still get that infernal MENU error when it loads (little memory card pic with MENU)
Absolutely driving me mad today - can anyone point me in the right direction please ?

Pugg, All,

Got my card to work now.
Just had to extract the software directly on to the card and had to use the panasonic format software.
Also had to use the ultra kernel (as was on the card).

Hope this feedback helps other people.

Have to say though that sometimes I need to put the card in the slot 5 times to get it to work. So sometimes it says no card inserted. Sometimes it will stay loading all the time. And sometimes it just works.

I think it is time for a better quality card.
Could have saved me hours of trying to get the damn thing to work ;-)
Then again, I bought the cheepest one that I could find. (lol)

My card started playing up a little after every time it was taken out.

My solution was to unscrew the card and bend the metal case that holds the SD card into the R4. This has fixed all the tempermental problems.

Pugg was the one that got it working in the first place though and I still think he's the man to get your cards sorted if a good squeeze doesn't fix the "it was working but now it's not" problem.

Rather than bend the DS slot put 3 layers of electrical tape on the rear of the circuit board (behind the contacts).

Open the Flashcart put three layers of electrical tape, cut to the same size as the gold contacts across the back of the circuit board, re assemble and then you no longer have to worry about paper shim or bending the DS slot too far and making real game cartridges too tight

 

Sorted my problem outthis morning, just decided to take them back to where I got them from and he swapped them all for me - and guess what: They all work !!

Hello. I have a R4 Revoloution NDSL/NDS card. This card was given to me for my birthday so came with no disc. It was working great up until about 2 weeks ago when in the middle of one of the games i just shut the DS LITE down. Then when I returned to the DS LITE to start up a new game it went onto loading and hasn't moved since.
I have read every website I can find on this and cannot find any answers.
I HAVE already formatted the card by taking the games off and transferring to a file on the computer then right clicking on the storage device then clicking format. I then put all the games back onto the card.
Got all excited and put the bloomin card back into the R4, then put it back in game console. STILL the same damn black loading screen.
I have downloaded the drivers and the R4 manual (it didn't have a disc). HAVE no idea what a kernel is so if that is what I need please explain what it is. Hopefully someone can help me. NOTE: you will need to be very specific in the instructions quite vague where it comes to all of this "ds lingo"..

First thing is what game did you load that made the screen show 'Loading'?.

Did you load that game after, when you formatted the SD card?
If you try without that gane, does it work?

To all those out there who are having trouble with their DS showing the horrible 'Loading' screen or the 'White' screen showing nothing, let me know so I can try and assist getting you back on track.

There are a few versions of the R4 out there, that do not work as they are total fakes.
Some of the R4's, if you check when placing the SD card in, it does not sit flush (the SD card is higher than the R4 top). These cards are fakes and will almost certainly not work. Let me know if someone has this type and have got it working.

Buying from the UK does not mean you will be safe, alot have been adopted to look authentic but in reality will batter your head in trying to get it to work.

I buy all of my bits from abroad and so far (I must be the lucky one)have never had any trouble recieving or setting up.
Yes it may take a few goes getting the R4 to work but you need to have patience when finding the right kernel versions.
There are alot of versions out there but have been re-named to say its a new version (in reality, it is not).
Some of you may not even realise when you have the R4 working that when you switch on your DS, the screen shows the picture (when you clcik on the pacman icon) with the month at the top. This month may not represent the actual month as I found some time ago when setting up for others.
Even though the DS works, R4 versions will not click with the DS settings, so if your not bothered about it being correct, just carry on playing.

To all those who have tried to contact me in the past, please send a message back as I have had that many responses, I dont know if I have captured you all.

To all those who do not know what a 'Kernel' is. The definition is:

The portion of an OS (Operating System) that is responsible for interacting with the hardware. It is the operating system software that runs in kernel mode on the computer's processor and which provides low-level intelligence for the operating system. In other words, the kernel is the "heart" of an operating system.

The Kernel is small but has the biggest part to play, it is responsible for memory management, process and task management, and disk management.

Hope this helps to those who do not know.

Hi there, i am getting so frustrated with this thing it is unbelievable!! I have 2 R4 cards, both work perfectly with 1gb & 2gb micro sd cards - i recently purchased a 4gb micro sd (both r4 cards are said to allow up to a 8gb card), with this, i have tried all firmware which has previously been mentioned on this thread with no success at all!!! I just get the black screen with 'LOADING...' in the middle!! does anybody have any other advice or anything else i can try? or has anyone else had the same problems when everything else works bar the 4gb!? Any help will be greatly appreciated, feel free to pm for my email addy if you think sending files or anything will work. Thanks
