One other question now that I've got the experts ear. For some reason, while trying to convert TiVo files, "Real Player" has replaced "windows media player" as my default viewer. Any idea idea on how to reverse this?
Yes, open Windows Explorer, and right click on the drive that you play videos, then select properties, then select "autoplay", and lastly select "windows media player" as the default player, and Voila. Also, I do not allow Realplayer to ever run without me telling it to run by, clicking the Start key, then select "run", and then type in msconfig, and select ok, then select the tab named "startup", and look for "realsched", and uncheck the checked markup, and he will never run again, except when he is called to run. Hope that is clear, and good luck, Rich
Rich....I go "programs", then click "accessories" and then go to windows explorer, but when I click on properties I never see "autoplay" or "windows media player" for default. sorry
I would have to believe that you are doing something incorrectly. I tried it on 2 computers, one a Home Edition, and mine, that is a XP Pro version, and they both react the same. Oh, did you right click on the DVD drive that you play movies, and then select properties? Also, you might have to select "DVD Movie" at the top, just below the tabs, and also check the "Actions" botton. Good luck, Rich
On your desktop, double click on 'My Computer' 'My Computer' menu opens and lists your drives. Right click on the dvd drive in question. Click on 'properties'
attar, FYI, on many XP Home Edition versions there is no "My Computer" icon on the desktop, it is in the start menu. Best regards, Rich
Gentlemen... I downloaded the trial version TMPGEnc DVD Author 1.6. I tried to burn one of my mpeg files (recall I converted a TiVo file with directshow dump) I received two different notices as to why I couldn't proceed: "The video resolution 480x480 cannot be used for a standard DVD" and "The video framerate 29.97 fps cannot be used with the resolution 480x480." Any thoughts on what I should do next? I suppose Nero would have shut me down too.
I hate to say it, but you really should be asking the experts over at http://www.tivocommunity.com They are much more familiar with what you are attempting to do. Good luck, Rich
Ooops, I forgot to mention this! Yeah TiVo is 480x480, but it can be fixed to play with a cool tool called SVCD2DVDMPG. It's free and will hack the header of your video to fool your programs and player into thinking that it's legal. Works great.
