I had a dvd of family movies made. I want to do some edits so I ripped it to my computer. I have a VIDEO_TS folder, with VIDEO_TS.BUP, VIDEO_TS.IFO and , VIDEO_TS.VOB but I cannot open anything. What do I need to use (application) to get this opened? Or did I do something wrong. I am a total amateur when it comes to this stuff. thanks.
What are you planning on editing with? Do those have menus that you want to keep? You could use handbrake, and it will rip the dvd into mpg4. It will take a few hours.
If you want to grab the A/V, a new product for the Mac can handle it. You can capture RAW video from the DVD in a playter direct int the Mac into quicktime, then create your own version of the DVD in iDVD.
The XLR8 ProView USB and XLR8 XtraView USB both can capture the DVD video in RAW or any QuickTime format, then allow you to edit in iDVD to create your own custom DVD... See: http://xlr8.com/proview See: http://xlr8.com/xtraview
Did you finally edit that disc? If not - are you in the UK? If you're an amateur, then editing, even with iDVD, is complicated and works in dvi format, not .vob etc. Other software costs a fortune. If you're in the UK (PAL system), and want to send me a copy of the DVD, I can dub it to my JVC 3-in-1 video recorder, do the editing you want on that, burn a disc, then send you the edited disc. terryxpress
