Sounds like we need a local SJA chapter. Software Junkies Anonymous

I see you went ahead with the ConvertX acquisition. I still don't know which I like best, it or the NV4.

Better not. It would probably be worse than AA. I never would go to one of those, we drunks don't get along well with alcoholics. LOL

I'm having the same problem converting .avi files from my pc to a DVD format. I used Turtle Beach's Video Advantage USB to capture images from my VHS tapes to my PC. I also have Nero StartSmart which will convert the .avi file to a .mp4 format but still not suitable for a DVD player.
I am new at this stuff but I'm eager to learn. Please help me if you can.

Nero Vision 4 is the conversion app in Nero 7. It's been made more user friendly.

As for time it varies with the system. The faster the processor and more RAM, the faster things go. The best bet with using any of this software is to do a conversion and time it.

Well I've been through the alkohol guide back and forth. I've
reinstalled Nero Express-- the precise version supplied with my
burner is Nero Express 6.3.1.23B and NeroVision Express 2.1.2.18B.
Then I did the upgrade from the webiste.

And hey, it just doesn't work. Who do I fo to complain about it?

The Nero Vision freezes at the same point all the time-- it refuses
to fill in the screen and leaves a bunch of blank boxes.

    Ok then...
Let's do the 'usual' procedures... Can you post a burn log so we can analize it? EVERYTHING will be in there... I'll be able to tell tou if your setup has anything to do with it.

Can I post a log file?

No, of course not. The prog won't load the avi file in the
first place. I get as far as making the selection
    from the 'browse' box.

The same file plays back fine in a player but it
won't load to convert. All other elements of Nero work.

For grins I have saved the log Files from the previous
burns I have done from this same folder group. There are
4 total in the folder. The 4th one has refused to load.
As stated, the file content seems to be ok, the size bar
shows it to be within limits and then the freezeup.

This all from an original program disk with updates,
not some copy. How legitimate is my suspicion that a
disk supplied with a burner may have bugs or 'limits' on
the amount of jobs it will do?

    Very! You have an OEM!
    Is this what you have?
Press there for the updates in case you haven't got that one.
If not then you need to get the updates because OEM's don't come with the full package. I have an OEM but i also have every single update apart from InCD...
Can you post 'a' log? As long as it's a recent log, it's fine.

Version 6.6.1.4 has been problematic for some users. They've had to go back to an older version. These are still available.
    ftp://ftp.nero.com/software/Nero6/Nero-6.6.0.18_no_yt.exe
    ftp://ftp.nero.com/software/Nero6/Nero-6.6.0.18.exe

Some of alkohol's guides are for Nero 7 with Nero Vision 4, so be careful which you're paying attention to.

Nero Vision 4 is part of the Nero 7 suite. You can find it at Nero.com, nothing wrong with downloading the trial. Just be aware the last update from Nero on the 7 has it acting up. I'm wondering what they're doing at Nero this month.

I'm starting to like NV4 more all the time. It's an easy app that does a good job. I still like the ConvertXToDVD as well. They're both good apps. For those trying trials, be aware the ConvertXToDVD trial leaves a logo on the screen.

Most people don't go through that much trouble just to get a new app. LOL I simply deleted Nero 6 and installed 7. ;)

As for NV4, I have to start somewhere, I wasn't overly fond of NVE3.

    LOL Brobear...

Well, i done 3 AVI's with NV4 last week and to be honest i don't think it's any different to NVE... Just a bit brighter with a cleaner face, that's all... It isn't any quicker and it doesn't give you any better quality...
I know that for quality NV4 isn't the best as it will do 2 passes at most... But compared to CCE it's quicker(6 passes for top quality, but normally i use 4).

For my usage, 3 passes is more than enough with CCE. It isn't exactly the software of choice unless someone is using it in conjunction with a controller app. CCE by itself has a high learning curve. How are you using it for file conversions? With NV4 I find the interface cleaner and to me it's easier to use.

I use CCE it with TFM. But only when subs are involved or if the AVI source file quality is a bit down, so i can at least keep that same level of quality... If that source AVI is of good quality i will of course use NVE.(NV4 now)
