I tried using a circuit writer to fix the trace, but of course it didn't work, so I'll have to fix the trace by wire. I think I'll go with softmodding, it's easier and it does't matter for me because I'm not updating my hard drive. I'll tell you if I need any help with the softmodding, you seem to know it well. Thanks for all your help.
with a softmod you can also (easily) put in a bigger harddrive!! but you have to lock it to your eeprom. with a chip, this last step of locking is not needed.
May sound dumb, but what does it mean to "strip and tin" the end of a wire? Can't figure out what that means, so I don't know what to do to solder the wire to d0 trace.
strip some of the plastic/ protective wire of the wire see picture: http://www.crimptech.co.uk/productpages/Pawo_Pawomat_AVG_single_stripped_wire.jpg btw. off course do not strip that much off!!! a little bit is enough (a few millimeters), or else the exposed copper might connect with one of the other via's/paths, that off course is not what you want! upper point is really hard to do, so if you get yours fixed please come by and do mine ;-) (lol)
the picture was of a stripped wire. tinning it means just put some solder(tin) on the stripped wire. this will make soldering it easier. good luck with the soldering job, will do mine this weekend.
thanks for all of your help, but I found out that there are many traces that are damaged, the copper ring around the lpc all came off, so I don't think I will be able to fix it. I'm thinking of buying one for really cheap. Thanks for all your help anyway.
