hey if i have a HD tv, and i want to play divx files from my dvd-r, does a dvd player with upconversion like 1080i/p make a difference because doesn't the HD from the tv already upconvert my dvds?
    thanks

Basically a HDTV will help with the signal, but in 99% of cases a DVD player with high resolution equivalent for HD is required for the best view possible. You may read about it at this site: Link

I do not know what format your HDTV is but the best possible resolution comes from 1080P. You want Progressive scan and not Interlaced for the best possible picture.
