I'm new to this. I downloaded dvd decrypter about two weeks ago (it's the newest up to date version) and I can read the dvd, but when i go to burn it, i get an error message at the bottom of the "box". it says: device not ready (unable to recover TOC) what's TOC and is it a problem with my burner or could it be the blank dvds or is it something else? Any help would be great. Also should i maybe try Nero or one of the other programs similar to dvd decrypter?
This is most commonly caused by packet writing apps such as InCD, DLA or Drag to Disc. Part of the way they work is to keep constant access to the drive so when another burning app needs to gain exclusive access to the drive it can't and the write process will be aborted. If you have any packet writing apps, uninstall them and see if that clears up your problem. If that doesn't work it could also be Windows built in IMAPI burning service which also likes to keep access to the drive. It's a useless app to begin with and even more so when you have dedicated burning software installed. IMAPI can be disabled by following these steps: Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services > Now scroll down to IMAPI CD-Burning COM Service and double click it. In the Properties window under the General tab look for the Startup Type drop down menu and select Disabled. Click OK and you're good to go. If, and only if, the steps above don't work you can set Decrypter to where it doesn't need to lock the drive by doing the following: Tools > Settings > ISO Write Mode > then uncheck "Lock Volume - Exclusive Access". By using this method you're possibly leaving yourself open to failed burns if another app interrupts the burn process.
what's the best way to locate the packet writting apps, or what are their file names? I don't want to accidently uninstall something i shouldn't and i want to be able to make sure that i get rid of what i need?
The three main packet writing apps are connected to burning suites. - Nero comes with InCD. - Roxio come with Drag To Disc. - RecordNow comes with DLA. All three should be found in Windows Add/Remove programs listed under said names
ok, found record now on my comp, uninstalled it. tried again...still got the "unable to recover TOC" message. diabled the IMAPI thing. still got that message...even did the unchecking of the "lock Volume- Exclusive access"...still have that message...i even rebooted my comp after uninstalling the record now. what am i doing wrong? or is it something else?
