I have recently had problems with burning and i've tried to get help from members on this site. I was advised to update my firmware and aspi file. From the link i was given to the NEC site, i cannot access the correct download as the NEC site is down?

    http://support.necsam.com/oem/downloads/flashfirmware/dl/K251GN81.exe

Can anyone suggest an alternative source to update?

When i tried to update the aspi file, it installed ok and then i had to unzip files, but i'm, not sure if i have to do anything else after the unzip?

Here is my failed burn log:

I found this site, but i'm not sure what i should download, i reckon it should be: under the NEC ND - 2510A section, the 2.06 version?

I don't want to go ahead and try it as i know if its the wrong download it can seriously damage the drive.

Thanks. Is 2.06 the right download from the rpc site?

You can try it, there is always a risk with flashing but if you do not do it your drive will not recognize newer media. Is this the fw that is original on the burner? Also, if it is not correct oftentimes the burner will just reject it. Make sure you reboot after your flash. Have you tried the PB site for support for this burner they may have fw for it. If PB is like Dell they have there own support dl's.

I've updated the fw before with help from someone on the site and it worked fine for 2 or 3 months with plenty of succesful burns. I did try the PB site the first time round but the site is useless.

I'll give the 2.06 version a try and see hot it goes.

Can you help with the aspi file? I did a previous download for this too a while back to fix the corrupt wnaspi file via the nero site. Again it worked ok for 2 or 3 months and now its not working again?

I have found the correct download from the NEC site to update my drive. When i run the download to start the update i am told

'Target NEC nd-2510A is not found correctly'

Going by the update instructions is says

'This error can occur if the firmware does not meet the update requirements'

I'm not exactly sure what this means??

Are you using the 2.06 fw? RPC states this about the drive

As your fw is reading 2.05D, where did you get this ver. from?

Try reading here for more info on NEC drives.

I got this version (2.05D) from a member on the site who suggested a download. I've now tried the NEC site and Packard Bell site for updates and i still get the same message

'Target NEC nd-2510A is not found correctly'

Can i go back to my previous version before the update or is this dodgy?

Do you think following this from the cdfreaks website will get me back to my original NEC drive?

Q: Something went wrong during my firmware flash, can I recover my drive?
A: Most likely yes, but you will have to do this in pure DOS. Use The Dangerous Brothers DOS utility to flash a known good firmware back onto your drive. Step by step instructions for flashing in DOS can be found here.

Anything is worth a try, the burner is not working for you and something needs fixed, or it may have just gone south.

edit: In reading the videohelp posts, it was said that the 2.54 probably was the original fw of NEC 2.04 in which case this is rather old fw and would cause problems. If you can flash to a true NEC this would save hassles.

Do you reckon this is the best method of flashing to a true NEC drive from my current one? (this is all i could see on the cdfreaks page)

Q: Once I have a modified firmware on my drive, can I change to another firmware?
A: Yes, you can flash your drive back to the STOCK firmware or use any other compatible firmware. All you need to do is load the firmware you want to change to into Binflash and you can flash your drive with any firmware you wish
