    Hi all,

    I got a Western Digital Caviar WD5000KS 500gb SATA2 hard disk.

I tried to install it on my Asrock P4VT8+ motherboard. Connected the sata data cable (that came with my mboard) and the sata power cable. Then at start up, it said "Hardware initiate failed, press g to continue". Windwos boots normally, however no new hard disk available.
I installed the newest sata drivers for my mboard from the website. Tried it with IDE power cable instead, same thing.

Now I know my motherboard is not SATA2 compatible, however the disk should still work, the disk is compatible with SATA. On the hard disk itself it says:

"jumper pins 5 and 6 enable SATA 150 MB/s only operation".

Do I have to use this jumper setting to get the disk to work with my motherboard? I have no jumpers, none came with the hard disk, and no documentation. Is there special jumpers I need to get for sata, or any old jumper?

    Any help appreciated.

    I sorted it out now

I nicked some jumpers from my dvd rom (which subsequently is not recognized) and put them in the 150 MB/s position on the sata disk. Works fine now, am currently copying all my stuff over to it now. I'll just have to get a new jumper for it, hmm never bought just a jumper before, how much do they cost 50p? Hope you don't have to get a hard disk with it.
