    What brand discs are you using? Check to see that you are using the most current firmware for your drive. DL and run this program and post back the results so we can make sure you get the correct firmware.

    The usual culprits to bad burns are listed above...cheap media and outdated firmware. I suggest trying Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden (online).

    And yes i was using cheap media because as I was just startin out i did not want to make expensive frisbies! That said the two I did burn produced good quality films.
    Also, when i was burning, i was online and i now suspect that either ms or antivirus did one of their "magical" updates during the burn proceedings to mess me up

    I also read other forums and checked;
    dma is on if availble on primary and secondary devices.
    Imapi is stopped and manual in "services.msc" (re someone elses forum or threads)

    hope this helps you to help me
    thanks
    Profidiot

    Your firmware is current for Gateway OEM. You've made two successful copies from the same batch of blanks...this is one of the reasons we recommend using only quality media, the results with cheap media can be sporatic and while you may be able to watch the disc today, six months down the road the dye may have deteriorated enough to render your backup useless. All I can suggest at this time is a change of media...
