ok....i got them in the folders correctly and it says they are installed and working properly when i used the InfoTool going through the start menu. However, when i checked it going to InfoTool by way of using the shortcut to smartsmart on desktop it still only shows that i have wnaspi32.dll installed and tells me aspi file(s) are still missing.....arent these reports supposed to be the same? If they are how do i match them up correctly? im using 2 hard drives if that makes a difference at all....

Also...it still shows i only have the wnaspi32.dll file in the Nero aspi after the InfoTools are used. does both the system aspi and Nero aspi need to have the same files to operate properly?

    hello,

nero has its own aspi layer, and will will only show 1 dll file, the other should be system aspi which should 4
you can use nero aspi layer if you want or system aspi layer
if system aspi is not showing ,then you have to install it from the links provided earlier

    cheers!!

What operating systems are you guys using? XP and I think 2000 don't use an ASPI layer. Programs like Nero have their own. Only occasionally nowadays is ASPI specificly needed. If you must install ASPI, I suggest using the latest ForceASPI, http://force_aspi_18.w.interia.pl/ . Be sure to follow the instructions and use the aspichk.exe when done to make sure all is set up properly. If you don't read the instructions, your PC may meltdown. Just kidding, but read the instructions so as not to mess up and have to read the instrucions and do the process over. If you don't understand ASPI, read the info here: http://aspi.radified.com/ .

Which version of ASPI did you install? Does aspichk.exe show your ASPI to be installed properly and Nero show green for both System and Nero ASPI? I'm starting to wonder if you may not have other system problems or even hardware problems. Answer the questions and we can work from there.

System ASPI is Version 4.60(1021) which includes WNASPI32.DLL ASPI32.SYS WINASPI.DLL and WOWPOST.EXE however the Nero ASPI is Version 2.0.1.74

System ASPI is Version 4.60(1021) which includes WNASPI32.DLL ASPI32.SYS WINASPI.DLL and WOWPOST.EXE however the Nero ASPI is Version 2.0.1.74 i do not have aspichk.exe and on one Nero InfoTool report it states ASPI are installed and running properly for both Sytem ASPI and Nero ASPI but on the other Nero InfoTool only Nero ASPI Version 2.0.1.74 is installed and running properly while the System ASPI only shows WNASPI32.DLL Version 4.60(1021) is intstalled but still is missing ASPI file(s).

Then you have messed up and didn't go to the page I suggested or you would have had proper instructions and the latest ForceASPI to install the software, plus the tool to check it with. Now you need to go to the links I supplied and do it over after using the appropriate tool in the pack to clean up the current conflicting setup.

Here's the short version so you don't overlook it:
Run dumpASPI to backup your current ASPI layer
Run instASPI to install the new ASPI layer
    Reboot your PC
Run aspichk to see if everything worked OK

If it were me, I'd delete the Nero from Add-Remove and I'd use killASPI and start fresh.

Just in case you missed it, the newer Windows doesn't have an ASPI layer. Sometimes adding ASPI will help in specific cases with some hardware and software. Don't be surprised if it doesn't cure the problem, but it doesn't hurt either. Since you now have an ASPI layer installed, it needs to be done correctly.

    @ brobear

i sent hin those 4 files...however i did tell him to delete them if it didnt work :(
and yes, apsi needs to be installed correctly

thats sounds like a good idea,..but run the nero clean tool after, before you do a fresh install

    cheers!!

    @ps2hacka
ForceASPI does the installation in the correct manner and the check tool makes sure it was done right. The 1.8 version is the latest I'm aware of. More recent than the 1.7 available here at AD. The tool installs what's needed in the right folders. As I've mentioned on numerous occasions, ASPI isn't normally needed with the new Windows OS(s).

Not a bad idea on the Nero clean tools. Sometimes Nero leaves troublesome remnants behind. I take some things for granted; when I said clean, I meant clean. It doesn't hurt to go even farther and run the adware/spyware and AV tools and run a reg cleaner, if a person hasn't been doing the housekeeping.

It was supposed to. The difference being if you did as instructed, the layer will be installed properly. What did the check tool say? Is the Nero now reading green for System ASPI the way it's supposed to.

I've been reading through this thread and it seems to me like deja vue all over again.I have Nero v.6.6 and I think it came with nightmares for me.Is it safe for me to download and run ASPICHK.EXE to check the ASPI layer version? There's no harm or I can't screw something else up by just running it to check things can I?
