The firmware for your burner is ages old. You need to upgrade the firmware so your burner can recognize the media.

    Edit: Wrong link.

Your drive is an external drive, sorry for the wrong info...Your new firmware is 2.0A!!!

    http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1837

The 2.19 firmware is for internal burners!!!

Here is info about how to update the firmware:
    http://support.necam.com/Optical/downloads/FlashFirmware/readme.asp?ID=5

However, you don't have enough memory. For burning DVD you should have at least 500MB RAM:
    You can also update Nero:

It won't let me update it...."
I get the error message: Target NEC ND-2510A is not found correctly."

The walkthrough says: If no drives are detected, click the cancel button. This error can occur if the firmware does not meet the update requirements.

    totally lost?

You only have 255MB, you should get at least 300 more MB.

Okay...your burner is pretty old, at least by "DVD burner" age. It is rated to write DVD+/-R at maximum X8. Even though the firmware is newer than the one that you had, it still does not recognize those X16 discs. Maybe the 2.0A firmware would help, maybe not. Maybe it does, maybe it doesn't have support for X16 discs of a different brand(by that I mean media code actually). I think best would be to try and find some X8 discs.

Go at some smaller stores, that do not rotate their stock too often, you will have a better chance at finding X8 speed discs. Buy verbatims or Sony if you find. Maxell X8 will probably be okay too. Just do not get any Memorex/Imation/Tdk/Phillips...or other schetchy brands.
Some people found some good discs at their local drug store. If you find any Made in Japan-grab them all!!

Okay. I was actually able to find the 2.0A firmware, which on the download page it states it should be able to read the 16x discs im using, but only write at 8x.....there has to be something else wrong besides the kind of disc.....i just don't get it.......and i don't even think its the memory i have because wouldn't it at least burn, just really slow? or give some error about the memory or speed? Could it have something to do with it being hooked up via usb..........i mean, it will play movies just fine.

The error says your burner does not like the disc. You said you tried Roxio also, and the same error. So, we can probably exclude Nero as the baddie.
As for the memory-this is not the reason why your burner does not recognize the media. However, you have just enough for your Operating System to function properly. Even if your burner liked those discs, possible that the burn would start and fail even if burned at the lowest speed.

Well, what roxio says on the error is an error E80070057, the parameter is incorrect. I dunno. I'll try some other discs now.

I don't know what the deal is...With Nero and DVD Flick, you don't have to burn to the disc. You can save the compilation to the hard drive after they are converted from Divx to DVD and then burn them with ImgBurn.

One last question......with IMGBURN, do i choose to write the ISO file that was saved? or VIDEO_TS folder? or what?
if i choose the iso file, wont that just burn an image disc and not a playable dvd? (sorry, im new to all this.)
